Clary woke up on Thursday morning with the worst feeling in her stomach. She had to go into the hospital today to prepare for her surgery and was dreading it. Sighing, she went down stairs to the kitchen to see Jace making coffee when the phone went off. "I'll get it," Clary said as she walked towards the phone.

"Hello?" She said into the phone.

"Hey, Clary, it's Alec, how's it going."

"Um, it's great, Alec. How are you," Clary said into the phone even though everything was far from great.

"I'm good, I was wondering if you and Jace wanted to meet up at Takis later," Alec answered.

"Sorry, we can't we have to head into the hospital today."

"Why? What happened?" Alec asked anxiously.

Clary was full of shock. "Didn't- Didn't Izzy tell you?" Clary stammered into the phone.

"Tell me what?" Alec said curiously

Clary sighed. "I'm sorry I have to say this on the phone Alec, but I have lung cancer and I'm going into surgery tomorrow." There was dead silence as Clary waited nervously for a response.

"Um. Wow. Oh my god, Clary, are you okay?"
Alec said.

Well, I mean, besides the fact that I have lung cancer? Clary thought. "Yeah, I'm great," She said aloud. "I do have to head over to the hospital though so," Clary trailed off.

"Okay, um, good luck Clary," Alec said.

"Thanks," she said and hung up the phone.

"Who was on the phone?" Jace said as he walked into the living room.

"Alec," Clary said looking up at Jace.

"What did he say?" Jace said realizing he forgot to tell him their "news".

"I told him why we were going to the hospital and he said good luck," Clary sighed and ran a shaky hand through her hair. "It's fine lets just go."

"Okay, I'll get the keys," Jace said as they got into the car to drive to the hospital.
