Zosia
We have one day to rest after we get back home before we start working at the church's kid's summer camp that my mom volunteered me, Dorien, Chris and Se to work for two weeks. Then we will be teaching their classes for a week of Vacation Bible School. Since I am in a boot, I can't do a lot of the physical stuff, so I'm put over arts and crafts. We come in early every day and set up our stations and wait for the kids to come to us. A lot of the kids flocked towards Dorien, Chris and Se because their areas are more active. Dorien has football, Chris has baseball, and Se has basketball.
I have my share of kids also. There's a little ten year old girl, named Meagan who is in the same predicament that I am with a cast on her foot. The first day she came over sat by me. "I broke my leg falling out of a tree that I climbed all the way to the top." She said proudly, "How did you break your leg?" I was speechless for a moment because I couldn't tell her that some girl broke it in a jealous fit. I just decided to make it as simple as possible. "I broke it while playing soccer. How much longer do you have to wear your cast?" Before she could answer, another little girl said, "I heard my sister talking and she said that another girl broke your leg." "While I was playing soccer." I reinforce. Big mouth kids. Megan answers me, "The doctor said that I will have to wear it for six weeks so I have four more weeks. How about you?"
"Mine probably won't come off until the end of summer." I told her, "but I start physical therapy next week." "What's that?" She asks. "Well, that is when they work your muscles so that they will heal more and start to work correctly when the time comes." She looks at me with a question on her face. I continue, "You know when you have to train a dog to fetch or sit?" She shook her head yes. "There are different types of breaks and with the type of break that I have, my leg needs to be trained to work correctly again and to get the strength back in it." She got a look of understanding on her face. "I don't have to do that with my break, but the doctor said that my leg will be smaller than the other one when the cast comes off. But it will be back to normal pretty quick." I smile at her, "Mine should be off by the end of the summer, hopefully."
Later, it was just me and my mom because Dorien had some things to do with his parents. He called and invited me to have dinner with them, but I decided to stay and have dinner with my mom. We haven't had much time with each other in a while and I looked forward to spending some quality time with her. Instead of going out to dinner, we decide to make dinner and eat in. We make Salmon, asparagus and garlic red potatoes. I have a cola and my mother has a glass of wine with dinner. We eat and talk and overall have a great time! My mom goes into the kitchen to get our dessert and I decide to take a sip of her wine to see how it tastes. It wasn't my thing.
I take the plates in the kitchen and put them in the dishwasher. My mom and I sit down at the table and start eating our dessert and I start itching. Just a little at first and then constantly. My mom looks up at me and says, "What the heck is wrong with you?" "What?" I ask scratching my arm. "Your face is all swollen, red and blotchy and you have hives all over your arms." "What!" I yell again as I hobble to the mirror as fast and I can and look. I look in the mirror and my face is swollen almost beyond recognition and my arms are super red and splotchy. I yell at my mother in a panic, "What's wrong with me?!" She grabs me as she comes out of her room with her purse, "I don't know, but we are going to the hospital and find out. I already texted Dorien and his parents and they are going to meet us there." She pulls me to the car and pushes me in and then got in on her side and pull off before I can get the seatbelt on.
Dorien and his parents are at the emergency room waiting for us when we get there. By this time, my skim was starting to feel really tight like it was about to burst. I kept putting lotion on it to try and make it feel better, but it just kept getting worse. Luckily, the hospital wasn't busy so we didn't have to wait that long. I was in the hospital room when the doctor came in. "Hi, I'm Dr. Johnson. I am assuming that you are in here because of your skin?" My mom said, "Yes, we were sitting there eating and all of a sudden, her face swelled up and got blotchy and her skin turned red and she was scratching." "And now I feel like my skin is going to burst!" I add. The doctor takes a look at my face and my skin, his cool hands soothing where they touched. "It looks like you have an immediate and severe allergic response to something that you had to eat or drink this evening. Have you eaten or drank anything that you haven't had before?" "No," my mom says, "What we had for dinner was something that we have always had. I wouldn't know anything that gave her this reaction because she has never had this reaction before."
