he came up with the idea that maybe you became tired and annoyed with him. that's why you had been ignoring him - avoiding his looks across the room.
but matt answered the questions swarming in his head.
"she just likes you as a friend," there was a pregnant pause before he added, "and a friend of hers likes you. so, in respect, she's distanced herself from you."
he was hurt.
he felt like you had been lying to him all this time, but he remembered that it was just him lying to himself.
you didn't tell him that he was annoying and boring. he told himself that every day you didn't look his way.
