We got into the room and the nurse closed the door.
"Alright Frank, my name is Kate. We're going to get right to your check up just as soon as Dr. Marshal finishes up with another patient."
Frank nodded.
Kate left the room.
"You're going to like Dr. Marshal. He's amazing. He's been my doctor since I was little."
"Is he nice?"
"Of course."
"Will he stop if I don't feel comfortable?"
"Of course he will. But this needs to be done so you can be healthy."
Frank looked up. He was so frustrated.
"You're not listening to me!" He cried, "I'm scared and everyone keeps telling me the same thing!"
I got up and wrapped my arms around him, "Shh, Frankie. It's not as bad as you think it is."
He whined into my chest.
The door opened and Dr. Marshal came in.
"Hey, Gerard!"
"Hi, Dr. Marshal."
He looked at the small boy in my arms. "Is this Frank?"
I nodded. "The one and only."
"Frank, I'm Dr. Marshal. Could you let go of Gerard so we can get started? You can still hold his hand, okay?"
I pulled away from Frank, he whined until my hand was secure in his.
Dr. Marshal started to check Frank's heartbeat. "Alright, I need to remove your shirt."
"No." Frank spoke.
"Frankie, remember what I told you? Let me help you, love." I pulled Frank's shirt up and over his head and arms.
Dr. Marshal began checking his heartbeat.
"You're doing good, sweetheart." I said to Frank.
"Alright, your heart sounds perfectly fine. Now, take off your shoes and come step on the scale."
"Can I put my shirt back on?" Frank asked.
"Yes, of course." He laughed.
Frank put his shirt on, took his shoes off, then went to the scale. I stayed where I was and sat down in the chair.
"Hmm. He's a little underweight. But it's not bad. Now, don't freak out, but I'm going to have to take a blood sample."
Frank looked worried.
"Baby, it needs to be done." I reminded him.
He nodded then sat on the bed and waited.
Dr. Marshal turned around with a needle connected to a tube.
I tried not to cringe at the sight of the needle, but I still managed to.
Frank must've noticed my weakness for needles and began to shake.
I stood up and made him look at me. I had to make him not think about the needle. "Frankie, I love you."
"Just kiss him if it will make him stay still." Dr. Marshal joked.
So I did.
I quickly pressed my lips to Frank's a few seconds before the needle was injected into him. He whined but slowly fell into the kiss.
I pulled away, looking down at him.
"Alright, you're done." Dr. Marshal said. "You'll get your results in a few days."
"Thank you so much, Dr. Marshal." I said.
Frank put his shoes back on and we walked out to my car.
"And since you were such a good boy, Frankie, we can go get some ice cream." I rubbed his head, messing up his head.
"Gee!" He laughed fixing his hair.
"Gimme a kiss."
"Why? You messed up my hair. I really liked it today."
"But it always looks perfect."
"Then why did you mess it up?"
"Sometimes perfect needs to end so I can focus." I leaned in quickly and pecked his lips.
I put the key in the ignition and we drove off.
