Ron was shocked. He apologized profusely, until I told him to shut up and we went and ate cauldron cakes and sandwiches for lunch. The rain soon stopped.

"Hey, Ron, want to go outside? Rains let up."

"Yeah, sure. Blimey, it's wet! My shoes are soaked!" And so we went and walked around the yard, and climbed trees. As I sat atop a high pine, I saw two familiar shapes hurrying down the road.

"Ron! They're here!" I shymmeyed down the tree and followed Ron inside. The door knocked and I rushed to open it, only to find a furry object thrust in my face. "What--" I stepped back, and adjusted my glasses. A furry, white, fat puppy was wiggling in Sirius's arms. I couldn't stop the smile that spread across my face. "Your new friend, Padfoot?" Sirius snorted.

"Blimey, buggar doesn't know his own birthday!"

"HAPPY BIRTHDAY, HARRY!" Remus and Ron shouted.

"What? But I thought it was next week!" I took the puppy from Sirius. Sirius winked.

"Calendar pages and dates can be mixed up sometimes, Harry," Remus said in an offhand tone.

"Oh for--" I began, but Sirius interrupted.

"So do you like him? He's yours!" He shouted, practically jumping in excitement.

"I love him," I said. I hugged the puppy, who licked my cheeks and face.

"Pure-bred husky, bragging rights all on parchment, and a special talent for hearing and knowing things dogs don't normally hear." Sirius proudly waved the parchment around, and Remus smiled and rolled his eyes.

"Well?" Said Ron. "What're you gonna name the poor mite?"

Silence.

"I-I don't know," I stammered.

"Sirius. That's not a boy puppy," Moony said, eyes twinkling.

"Oh yes? And how would you know?" Sirius asked, surprised.

"I have ways." Of course! Moony is a werewolf-that must be why... "Unless you want me to prove it to you?"

"No, I think we're fine," Sirius said, looking distastefully at the puppy. Then his expression darkened, and he began muttering something about 'stupid storekeepers' and 'it was in the boy bin.' Ron began laughing, and pretty soon even Sirius joined in. I hugged the puppy, who yipped happily.

"I think I'll name her Lily," I said, and everyone nodded in agreement.
