"Sirius!!" I yelled for the third time at the big black dog, lying in a pool of blood in the middle of the field.

Tears rolled down my cheeks in shame. What had I done? Had I killed my best friend? I was breathing heavily, assessing the damage I - I had done. There was a huge gash on his leg, stretching from his flank downwards. A huge scratch, not too deep thankfully, streamed from his shoulder to his flank, almost touching the former wound. I sighed in relief. I hadn't bitten him where it counted.

My eyes streamed and I let out an anguished sob. Sirius would still feel affected by the bite, he wouldn't ever be the same. He would never be a full werewolf like I, but would probably like redder meat, things like that. I sat there for a long time, my mind blank besides the fact that I had finally done it. My greatest fear. I had killed--

"Remy?" A soft whisper. I gasped and removed my hands from my face. Sirius, alive but very pale, was looking up at me. I leaned down and hugged him around the neck as tight as I could. He moaned in pain, so I stopped. "What happened?" I sobered.

"Sirius, I- I-" I couldn't finish my sentence. My throat was tightening, and my eyes were blurry because of the fresh tears.

"You bit me?"

I sat and waited. Waited for the disgusted shriek and the slap on the face and for the words of hate. They didn't come.

"Cool!" I opened my eyes in surprise. I nearly killed him and he thinks it's cool? I threw up my hands in exasperation. Then I hid a smile. Same old Sirius. He didn't know how relieved I was. I pulled out my wand and started to heal the cuts. The little scrapes and bruises soon disappeared, as well as all the blood. I waved my wand over the two cuts, and they closed. They weren't very deep. I winced as scars left their grim mark.

"Episkey." I muttered and his broken nose snapped back into place. He was still very weak, but I had done all I could.

"Remy, help me up. " Sirius stretched out a hand, his eyes flashed in pain and then he smirked. "Come on. It wasn't your fault."

I didn't say anything but lifted him up as best I could and apparated.

I put Sirius in his bed and left a Blood Replenishing Potion on the bedside table. I then went to get a rucksack and packed all the necessities. I had to leave, I told myself. As much as I didn't want to, I had to. I would send Harry a letter explaining everything. I left Sirius a note. It was for their safety.

I left, leaving a sandwich on the counter and the note. Someday they would understand. I had to leave.

I had to.
