~Nick
My mom and I walk out of the police station. I had to talk to mediators and investigators while my mom was in the same room. The discomfort I felt throughout the whole time I was speaking as the men were taking notes made me want to cry. They asked me questions after I was done telling them what happened with the whole situation with my father and I. The questions were ones like:
"Do you know his license plate number?"
"No."
"Do you know his house address?"
"No."
"Do you know his phone number?"
"No."
"What does his look like?"
I told them.
"What's his full name?"
My mom told them.
So on and so forth.
During the mediation, my phone started to vibrate, but I didn't know what for. I wasn't able to check it because I thought if I did, the men would take it away and do 'research' on it or something. I didn't want to risk that.
"Do you want to go out to eat tonight, Nick?" My mom asks as we get in the car.
I shrug and buckle in the car, and look down at my lap. There's nothing else I feel other like a disgrace, like a disappointment, just flat out terrible.
"I'm sorry I had to put you through that, but it was for the best, I hope you know that," Mom sighs and rubs my shoulder for comfort. "I don't want you to be mad at me, Nick."
"I'm not mad. I just feel not so good," I mumble and lean back in car seat.
Mom starts up the car and begins driving to whatever intended direction. "I heard your phone go off, are you going to check and see who it was?"
Right after my mom mentioned my phone, I immediately dug in my back pockets, snatching it and checking to see who called me or sent me a message or anything. Instead of either of those, it was a voice mail, from Zack.
I click on the icon and wait to hear Zack's voice if he actually says anything or if it were an accidental call.
"Hey, babe, it's me - " His voice says softly over the speaker, " - I just wanted you to know that I have a great surprise coming your way very soon. Call me as soon as you get this message. I love you." Then the speaker went to a buzzing ring.
A surprise? What is he talking about?
"Who was it?" Mom asks and looks over at me, a smile present on her face.
"It was Zack," I mutter and dial his number, then pressing the 'call' button'. "He told me to call him as soon as possible," I say as the phone was ringing.
After the third ring, he finally answered. "Nick? Is that you?" His smooth voice lurked through the speaker, a smile instantly rising upon my cheeks.
"Hi, Zack," I say nervously. Just having his name roll off my tongue makes my cheeks flush red and get all jittery. "Uh - um, I got your message."
"Really? Great!" He says proudly over the speaker. "I was just wondering, what do you want for Christmas?"
"Christmas? That's two months away," I chuckle and get the hint about maybe his planning.
Since Zack asked me what I want for Christmas, does that mean he's coming out again to see me? What if he's planning on movie here? That would be great! I would be able to hold him again, kiss him again, and talk to him in person. But, what if he can't or doesn't want to? He is an adult . . . but he also has Pierce and the dance studio. I can't keep him away from his career or family. Zack can do whatever he wants to make himself happy.
"Yes," Zack chuckles a lightly. "So, what do you want?"
I bite my lower lip and begin to tear up just thinking about seeing Zack again. Why am I so emotional about seeing Zack? Maybe it's just what happened today.
"I want you," I say softly, not even caring that if my mom could hear me say that and be completely weirded out. I just want Zack to know what I want, and that's not so bad.
"Well, let's hope that Santa will make that happen."
That really hit me. Zack is probably going to come see me.
"Are - Are you serious?" I stutter and feel more tears filling the rims of my eyelids.
Instead of a response coming from Zack, I just heard a lot of background noise; mostly yelling. What is that supposed to be? What's going on over on the other side of his line?
"Zack? Are you there? Are you okay?" I panic, not knowing else what to do since I'm so far away from him. I feel so helpless now.
"Sorry, babe, I have to go. I'll call you tomorrow, though. I love you!" And with that, he hung up. I didn't even get the chance to say goodbye to him or say 'I love you' or anything. He just clicked off as if it were so easy to do.
"What happened?" My mom asks, concern leaking through her tone as she spoke.
"I don't know," I sigh and lean back in the car seat, trying to relax. "Zack asked me what I wanted for Christmas, and I told him that I wanted him."
"So I heard," she chuckled and rubbed my arm. "I'm pretty sure he's going to be taking extra hours at work if he wants to come out here again."
I smile at her attempt of trying to lighten the mood, but it doesn't really suit me. What if something really bad happened to Zack? Well, he did reply last to me which is a good thing, but he didn't sound so okay. I don't want anything bad to happen to him.
I don't know what I'd be without him.
Thank you so much for reading and I'm sorry for not posting the last two weeks. I've been extremely busy but here I am and here's a new chapter! Much love! -Luka
