kyle was acting different.
he wasn't talking as much, and when he did, it was very boisterous for short periods of time.
it seemed to give me whiplash.
that, and he was whispering to himself.
i noticed it one night when all four of us cabin mates were relaxing in the lounge room.
'-maybe...no.. i don't know.' he whispered, head shaking back and forth slightly.
'what was that, kyle?' kate asked, furrowing her eyebrows at him.
'wha'? n-nothing.' he replied, eyes wide. something was different.
'you sure?'
'y-yeah.'
-
then he started getting.aggressive.'ky-kyle? c-could you h-help me w-with some-something?' daniel asked, timidly looking at the taller boy.
kyle whispered a small phrase to himself before speaking loud enough for dan to hear;
'maybe if you stop acting like a baby and talk right, you could handle things. then you wouldn't have to ask for my fucking help all the time.'
's-s-s-sor-'
's-s-s-sorry' kyle mimicked in a mocking voice, 'grow up.'
'kyle!' i spoke up, shocked.
'don't tell me your feeding into his games. they can see right through the lie.'
'who is they?' i asked, moving to place my arm around the shaking boy's waist.
'i,um, the campers? forget i said anything. im getting out of here. you can help him.' he muttered, grabbing his coat as he exited into the breezy outdoors.
'it's okay danny, he didn't mean it.' i consoled him, 'he didn't mean it.'
