I couldn't see past Kyle, but I knew he heard it too. His mouth was open wide in shock.
"Did you not hear me?" The voice got a little angrier.
Kyle let go of me and turned slowly. "Is this real?"
Seth punched Kyle in the face, making him fall to the ground. "Did that feel real?"
"Seth!" I screeched. "Seth!"
He laughed. "Hi." His voice was softer than ever.
"Seth."
"Wow; your vocabulary has gotten worse since I last saw you." He mocked. I didn't care, though. I threw my arms around his neck. I felt his arms wrap around my waist, and he span me around a couple of times.
"I've missed you. So much." I sobbed into his shoulder.
"I've missed you, too." He squeezed me slightly. "It was supposed to be somewhere nice, but it was Hell to me."
"Why? Where did she really send you?" I pulled away so I could see his face, but I didn't let go of him.
"I'm happy you're back - for Tabitha's sake - but you're still a little bastard." Kyle stumbled as he pulled himself up, one hand over his bleeding nose. "And I'm gonna fuck you up."
"Kyle, no." I choked. "Please."
"Look at what he did to me!" Kyle moved his hand away, and his nose was definitely broken.
"It'll heal soon. Please." I begged.
"You deserved it, Kyle."
I squeezed my eyes shut and whispered, "shit!" Under my breath when Seth spoke. I knew he'd made a bad decision.
"Fuck you." Kyle spat at Seth. I opened my eyes, expecting something to happen, but Kyle simply turned and left. I watched in disgust as Seth wiped the saliva from his cheek, wiping it on his hoodie.
"I'm doing this for Tabitha." He called behind him.
Seth turned to me, grinning mischievously.
"That wasn't funny." I complained. "You could've gotten yourself hurt."
"But I didn't." He whispered, wrapping his arms around my waist again.
"I'm so glad you're back, Seth." I buried my head into his neck. "But, how?"
"What. The. Fuck?"
We jumped away from each other, our heads darting in the direction the voice had come from.
I smiled. "Yeah. Your plan didn't turn out to well, did it, you bastard?"
It was Elias.
"You're supposed to be gone. Forever."
"Well, I'm back, deal with it." Seth narrowed his eyes.
"How?" Elias almost shouted. "This isn't supposed to happen!"
"I'm not explaining anything to you." Seth walked over to Elias, whispering something to him.
"Tabbi, do you want to go back to bed now? It's coming close to midnight." Seth turned back to me.
"No, I was on my way for a snack..." When I said that, I realised that I wasn't hungry anymore. I would be eating to fill the hole I constantly felt within me, but now I was whole again. Seth was back.
"Okay. I'll leave you to-"
"No!" I almost cringed when I noticed how desperate I sounded. "I want- need, to speak to you." I smiled, feeling tears begin to form in my eyes. I never thought I'd be able to speak to him ever again just fifteen minutes ago.
"Alright." His voice was extra gentle. "I'll tell you about where I was."
I was a little scared to hear about it."Okay. I've prepared myself for the worst. Where did Analetta send you?" I bit into a bagel and focused all of my attention on Seth, who was sitting across from me at the dining table.
"A really pretty forest, with a lake and flowers. Really similar to our forest."
My heart skipped a beat when he referred to it as 'our forest'.
"It was always warm and bright. It was relaxing, lying there, listening to the water and the birds. The water was crystal clear, too."
"Then, how was it Hell?" I was confused. It sounded like the perfect place for Seth to be.
"Because you weren't there."
There were a few moments of silence. We just stared at each other straight in the eyes; no blinking, no movement at all. Then, Seth's lips spread into a small smile.
No, Tabitha. He doesn't mean anything by it. We're good friends, that's all. I tried to convince myself, as my mind strayed to romantic explanations. But I couldn't help the tiny ball of excitement and hope in the pit of my stomach.
"I should go and speak to Mum and Kim." Seth started to stand, and my heart dropped. We were just friends. He didn't mean anything else but that.
"Yeah..." I looked down at my bagel, suddenly feeling too sick to finish it.
"I'll see you tomorrow. It was really nice to be able to speak to you again." He finished. As he walked past me, he ruffled my hair. Definitely just friends. I ate as much of the bagel as I could - about three more tiny bites - before throwing it away. When I dragged myself back into bed, it felt like the first night Seth was gone all over again. I didn't want to sleep, just cry. I didn't want to bother him by confessing my feelings to him, but at the same time I didn't know if I'd be able to act normally with him without letting him know. Lying to him didn't seem right."Young Tabitha. I've heard news that Seth has returned to us?" Doctor Carver found me in the café the next day. He sat across from me, and his face twisted into a look of puzzlement. "You don't look very happy."
I smiled. "I am. Just...drained."
"Ah. I'm guessing it's a little more than that, but I'm not one to pry...unless it's into somebody's skull." He laughed for a little bit at his own joke, before realising I wasn't amused in the slightest. He cleared his throat. "Back to the topic I came here to discuss. It's time for you to see another segment. We have no time to waste."
"I'm guessing you've found out Analetta is back?" I asked.
His face drained of its colour, and his eyes widened. He said very sharply, "what?"
"Oops..."
