As I packed my things, a million thoughts were swirling around in my head. Would the items work outside of the town? Would Seth take the opportunity to stop caring about me and forget all about me whilst I was gone? Would everything be okay here?
I finished packing the obvious items like clothes and toiletries, but then I sighed and plopped myself onto my bed, staring at the precious items. I needed Elias' item, why wasn't it here? I also couldn't pick up these items to pack them, and I had no gloves to allow me to handle them.
"There's no point taking those." Carver appeared in my peripheral vision, making me turn quickly to the other side of my bedroom. "They won't work outside of town; don't you have any common sense, girl?"
"Ah..." I looked at the items again.
"Let me take them, for safe keeping." Carver's fingers twitched with anticipation.
"Alright." I shrugged.
His eyes filled with light, and he looked almost surprised. "Why?"
"I think it's obvious that I want to fulfil my duties. Otherwise, why would the items be on my bed?" I had to convince him that I meant it. If I didn't, he'd get angry and perhaps harm me. Nobody could know my actual plan, especially Carver.
He ignored me and gathered up the items.
"Wait..." His eyes scanned the items in his arms a few times. "Where-"
"Elias'? I don't know."
He looked up at me, doubt visible in his face.
"I really don't. Seth gathered these up for me and..." I shrugged again.
"Right!" He said, sharp and aggressive.
"I'll be away for a few days. Please don't hurt Seth or Elias." I requested, and left the room. I tried to act as ordinary and indifferent to what was going on as I possibly could, but inside I was panicking, being torn apart and practically dying.

I caught Mum in the hallway. "Where exactly are we going, Mum?" A tiny part of me worried that she'd say Wales. Samantha didn't seem to like me very much, so I wouldn't put it past her to do with my Mum what Peter had done to Alexander.
"Blackpool." She grinned.
I allowed myself to feel some excitement. "Arcades." I hissed happily.
"Pleasure Beach." Mum squealed and jumped up and down.
"And we're going to Pleasure Beach?"
With all of the excitement, I almost forgot about what was going on in the mansion.
"I'll put our stuff in the car, you go make sure you have everything you need. I want this trip to be perfect!"
I was becoming more reassured that it was a genuine vacation.
I turned to run back upstairs, but quickly span back around. "Wait, what about school?"
"You can have a couple of days off, you've been going through a tough time lately."
Hah. She doesn't know the half of it. I thought.

"Elias?" I whispered through the hallways, incase Mum heard me. "I really need to talk to you!"
"'Sup?" Elias tapped my shoulder. As soon as I saw his cheerful face, I threw my arms around him.
"I'm so sorry. For the necklace and the way things have been lately." I didn't care how much desperation was in my voice.
"You have nothing to apologise for. I've been trouble." He giggled.
"Elias." I pulled away, making both my voice and expression more serious.
"Yeah?" His eyes widened slightly. "Wait, is this leading to a kiss?"
"No!" I playfully whacked him on the shoulder, laughing. "Be serious now. Where's your item?"
His jaw clenched. "Tabbi, you're not having it."
"I want to see it." My stomach turned at the thought of having an argument with Elias the way I'd had with Seth. I was halfway through thinking: 'Carver will get it somehow.' When Elias continued quickly.
"What's this?" Elias tried to move away from the subject by holding up my wrist and observing my bracelet.
I pulled my wrist away. "If Carver doesn't have your item by the time I'm back, I'll never speak to you. Even if I come to visit."
"Wait, where are you going?"
I explained about the trip.
"Have fun. And I didn't know it was your birthday soon." Elias took a quick glance at my bracelet. "I'll have to get you something special."
"That isn't necessary." I pulled Elias into one last hug. "I'll see you in a few days."
"I'm gonna make some plans with Seth. Enjoy your vacation; don't let things here bother you. 'Kay?"
I felt sick at the mention of Seth's name. "Seth won't care. He-"
"Tabbi. I understand Seth. I was his best friend for a long time. He cares about you, and he cares about you a lot. Trust me." He let go of me and beamed at me.
"Thanks." But I wasn't so sure he was right. As I was wandering back towards the staircase, Elias' voice trailed behind me.
"Thank you, Tabbi. You might not realise it, but you're important. Not just because you're the Saviour. You're like a glue: you've brought me and Seth closer again. I hate to admit it, but I've missed him."
I smiled to myself as I continued to walk, unfaltering in my step. There was nothing more to be said, even if I died before I got to speak to Elias again, this was a nice way to end things. That was, until, I heard - though a lot quieter - a quick: "I love you."
In one quick motion, I span to face him, casually said, "love you, too." Then turned back and carried on down my path. Elias would understand that I didn't mean I was in love with him.

Now, that was a nice way to end things with Elias.
