The noises that Tabitha and her Mother could hear on the first night they stayed in the Manor were the sounds of Kimberly and Elias playing a game of tag in the basement. The footsteps and smashed vase when Tabitha was playing the piano was the outcome of Elias being 'playful', trying to get her attention. The reason Tabitha didn't see him at this point is because - in her fear and eagerness to leave the room - she didn't notice he had hidden behind her. Of course, he was hidden with a cheeky grin on his face, and butterflies in his stomach.
