Chapter 8

(Aiden’s POV)

I can’t believe I’m about to turn in front of her; I know for a fact she isn’t ready for this. My poor Addison doesn’t believe me at all, I really don’t want to prove her wrong.  She is going to freak out, that much is a given, but the question is how much?

Other than the fact that I’m worried about scaring her, I’m also worried about losing control. When my wolf is freely out it is nearly impossible to stop it, and there is no telling what will happen. I can’t mark her without her giving me consent first, that’s what got us into this situation in the first place.

She looked up at me expectantly, probably waiting for me to make a fool out of myself. I took a deep breath; I need to hear her tell me she promises to stay again. I know that even if she promises it won’t make her stay, but I still want to hear it nonetheless.  “Promise me again you will stay the whole time so we can talk later…” I trailed off, pleading for her to stay.

“I promise,” she shrieked. I could tell her anger was rising and I instantly felt the urge to run over to her and calm her down, but this was more important.

I knew if I didn’t turn soon I would lose the courage to do it. The thought of possibly losing my beautiful Addison is unbearable. I took a deep breath trying to calm my nerves, but it did no good; I’m still scared to death.

Well, now or never, I thought to myself. At that I began shifting. I felt all of my bones breaking and remolding themselves in my body and I began shrieking out in pain. No matter how many times I turn, it still hurts every time. My ears and nose began growing as my thick, black fur began covering my skin. In a few seconds I was completely turned, and I looked up at Addison to see her reaction.

A terrorizing, blood curtailing scream left Addison’s suddenly chapped lips. Her face was completely shock stricken and pasty white, as she began swaying on her feet. Before I realized what was happening she fell onto the ground in a heap.

The possibility of her being injured caused me to run over to her like a maniac; I didn’t even think to shift back into my human first. As soon as I got to her I began nudging her with my nose, trying to get her to wake up, but she was out like a light.

Several minutes past by with me nudging her and she still hasn’t woken up. I’m quickly becoming incredibly worried. I have decided that I am going to take her to my pack doctor; hopefully he can help her and figure out if anything is wrong. Very carefully, as if not to hurt her, I grabbed her clothes with my teeth, and placed her gently on my pack. Then I began running.

I realized it would be much easier to carry her if I was human, but my wolf can run so much faster. The house was a good ten mile run from where we’re at, and the sooner I got there the better.

As soon as I was around three miles from the house I mind linked my pack doctor. Niles, I need your help. I am about three miles out, be ready for me when I get there. I ordered him in my Alpha voice.

Yes Alpha he simply replied.

At hearing his reply I picked up my speed, trying my hardest not to jostle Addison. I was really afraid she would wake up before we got there; I don’t think she would take too well to sitting on the back of her boyfriends back who just so happens to be a wolf.

As I ran on, the pack house began coming into view. Our pack house was huge, one of the biggest in the country.  It rose up eight stories, with thirty master bedrooms on each floor. We had over four-hundred members in our pack, which made us very powerful.

Once I got up to the front door I was greeted by a frantic looking Niles. “What’s wrong with her?” he asked.

She fainted once I turned in front of her. I think her leg might be broken…

“You turned in front of her?! How long has she been unconscious?” he asked.

Easily ten minutes, that’s not normal right?!

“No, it’s not. Come on let’s get her inside.” He began grabbing her off of my back, trying to carry her inside. A loud growl left my mouth, and I began snapping at him. NO ONE touches my mate, I growled.

Niles instantly stiffened, and then looked at me with shock. “This is your mate? You found her? I had no idea…”

Yes, she’s mine. I will get her inside myself, I seethed.

“Of course,” he took a step back letting me through the door.

I realize I’m being completely irrational, he was only doing his job, but I want no one to touch her like that. I won’t allow it, and neither will my wolf.

I made my way to the hospital ward, and found an empty bed. I carefully laid her down on the bed and waited for Niles to come in. As soon as he arrived, I turned back into my human form and slipped on the shorts that were in my mouth. I knew if she woke up to me in front of her, in my wolf, it would freak her out all over again.

A good ten minutes went by, and she still hadn’t woken up.  During this time, Niles confirmed that her leg was in fact broken. Knowing I was the reason she got hurt was killing me inside.

I sat next to Addison, holding her cold hand in my own.  I’ve been constantly pleading with her to wake up. “Please baby,” I whispered in her ear, “wake up for me. Just squeeze my hand or something so I know your ok.”

As before, she gave me absolutely no response. I am so worried for her safety, this isn’t normal.

I was so intent on watching Addison that I didn’t notice when someone came up behind me. I heard someone clearing their throat and I looked up to see Hunter.

He looked worse than when I saw him last. His eyes were blood shot, and he had dark purple bruises around his eyes. The poor guy had been crying so hard he had broke blood vessels. My heart panged at how miserable he looked. I was certain if Addison wakes up and rejects me I’ll be going through the exact same thing as him, only worse off.

“I’m so sorry Aiden,” his voice cracked out.

“It’s not your fault man, I’m the one who told her,” I told him nonchalantly.

“Yes it is,” he wailed trying to make me see his reasoning, “you wouldn’t have had to tell her if it wasn’t for me. If she’s not ok-”

“She will be,” I interrupted. It is not a possibility for her not to be ok; I wouldn’t be able to handle it.

“Ok…” he trailed off, “Well, I’ll leave you too alone,” he said sensing my mood. He then quietly left the room.

I sat next to Addison for another fifteen or so minutes and she still hasn’t woken up. She has been out for a good forty minutes, and that was making me really worried. Niles said she would be ok, but I’m not going to accept that until she is wide awake and safe in my arms. “Please baby, I need you to wake up for me,” I begged.

I still got nothing for a reply. My eyes began pooling with tears, and they quickly spilled over. I can’t handle seeing her lying still and lifeless beside me. I laid my head on my arms that were resting on the bed. I didn’t plan on going anywhere until I found out she was ok.

A little while later I tried again, “Addison? Can you hear me sweetheart? Can you please just give me any sign that you’re ok?”

Suddenly I felt a gentle squeeze coming from her hand. It was weak and frail, but a squeeze nonetheless. It was the best feeling I have ever experienced; relief washed over me. “Addison?” I spoke up excitedly.

Her eyes began fluttering, and then she opened those big, beautiful blue eyes up to look at me.
