Chapter 9

(Aiden’s POV)

“Oh thank God,” I whispered.

Upon hearing my voice, Addison quickly shot her head over to look at me. Her eyes instantly turned to recognition, and I could tell she remembered the incident. In one sudden move Addison whipped her hand from my own and pushed herself as far as she could with her broken leg away from me. That’s when the screaming started; she was frantically screaming for help while she was quickly curling herself up into a tight ball.

Hunter came running in when he heard screams; this only caused Addison to scream louder, begging for help. Her screams shot through me like a knife, stabbing me over and over again. “Addison, please baby, calm down so we can talk. I’m not going to hurt you.”

“Get away from me,” she screamed at the top of her lungs.

I backed up a few steps, but that was as far as I could get away from her without me wanting to  run back to her, “Addison, listen to me, I promise you I’m not going to hurt you, I would never hurt you,” I pleaded with her to understand.

At that the water works came; tears streamed freely down her face. I couldn’t help myself; I instantly rushed over to her side. “No, no, get away,” she begged, crying harder.

I grabbed onto her shoulders and forced her to look at me, “Addie, I’m still the same Aiden you know, nothing is different.” I brought my hand up to her face, cupping her cheek.

“No, no you’re not the same,” she said swinging her head wildly, trying to knock off my hand. “Everything is different now.”

“Addison, I need you to calm down and listen to me; I’m not scary.”

“You’re not scary?” she asked in disbelief, “You’re a monster!”

I instantly dropped my arms and took a step back. She called me a monster! My wolf cried out in agony. I felt my eyes tear up as I processed what she just said; I feel as though I’ve been shot with an arrow. That was probably the most horrible thing she could say to me, next to her rejecting me that is.

She doesn’t mean it, Hunter mind linked me. I totally forgot he was in the room; just give her time to cool down.

Yah your right, I told him, but that doesn’t mean it doesn’t hurt like hell.

I’m sorry man; this is my entire fault…

No Hunter, this has nothing to do with you.

Do you want me to get Niles? He asked. I’m sure he has some medicine he can give her to calm down…

Yes, that sounds like a good idea. Go fast.

Hunter quickly left the room, leaving Addison and me alone.  “Please Aiden, go away,” she begged through a sob.

“I’m sorry Addison, but I can’t do that. I can’t leave you,” I told her honestly.

My response made her cry even harder. “What do you want from me, Aiden?”

“I need you to calm down and hear me out. There’s a lot of stuff you need to know.”

“I don’t think I can take anymore,” she informed me.

“You hav-“I was interrupted by Niles and Hunter coming back in.

“Hello dear,” Niles told Addison, “I’m Niles, I’m the pack doctor,” he said sticking out his hand for her to shake.

Addison had the whole ‘deer in headlights’ look going on right now. She looked down at his hand, but didn’t make a move to shake it.

Niles awkwardly put it down, “anyway… so I’m going to give you some medicine to try and calm you down a bit. It’s a shot, so it will only hurt a little,” he told her. He then turned away from her to get the shot.

Addison began panicking and started chanting ‘no’ over and over again. As soon as Niles turned around with a big shot in his hand she began flailing around like a maniac. “Help, help, somebody please help,” she screamed.

Her fright was doing a huge number on me. Seeing her so terrified and not being able to do anything about it was one of the hardest things I ever had to experience. “It’s going to make you feel better,” I told Addison calmly, wiping her sweaty hair off her fore head.

“Oh my gosh, I’m going to die, I’m going to die,” she screamed out.

“Addison, you’re not going to die,” Niles told her, “this is just going to calm you down so you and Aiden can talk.”

“Please no, please,” Addison screamed as Niles brought the shot down closer to her.

“Aiden, Hunter, I need you to hold her down so I can hit a vein,” he told us.

“Of course,” Hunter responded walking over to the other side of the bed.

“Aiden hurry up now,” Niles complained when I made no effort to move.

“I don’t like this,” I told him, “it’s just going to freak her out more.”

“It has to be done Aiden,” he told me.

I hesitantly walked over to the bed and grabbed onto Addison’s right arm and leg. “Please Aiden, don’t let him do this,” she pleaded with me.

“It will be ok,” I told her, smoothing her hair back.

At that, Niles stabbed the shot into her arm, and Addison began screaming, begging him to stop. I kept trying to soothe her by caressing her head as tears poured down my face. It was killing me to see hurt so much; physically and emotionally.

It suddenly hit me how incredibly selfish I am. I just had to have Addison.  I should have gotten away from her, but NO I had to get close to her and then tell her what I am. It is now too late to permanently break ties with her and walk away; our bond has become too strong, my wolf wouldn’t allow it. I’m so pathetic, I sicken myself.

“All right, that should make you feel much better Addison,” Niles told her. “I’ll leave you too alone now… come on Hunter.”

Niles and Hunter both left the room leaving me alone with a loony Addison. Those pills are definitely what you would call happy pills; she was totally calm and relaxed.

“Can we talk now?” I calmly asked.

"Yes, let's talk," she told me.
