I through on my jacket and hoodie. I sprinted to The Parks house. I knew the way to their house like the back of my hand. As I ran through the streets I finally was able to see the familiar lamp post that stood guard every night for the Parks. I approached the front porch and knocked on the door with an iron fist. Her older brother Jake had opened the door, "Oh, what a joy, it's heartbreaker boy." He went to close the door but I wedged my foot in. Knowing that arguing with a 6'3 quarterback legend for the highschool was a bad idea, I pushed my luck. "Jake, please let me in. I need to talk to her."
"Forget it Nathan, she doesn't want to talk to anyone right now. She's not even letting me in." What he said surprised me enough that I almost took my foot out from the path of the door. Almost. "She's not even letting me in Nathan and you know that means she's in rough shape." I nodded and took my foot away from the door. "I get it Jake." I let him close the door and waited to hear foot steps walking away. I booked it for their fence and jumped it.
After jumping the fence I raced to Melody's room window, which I had to climb a story to reach. I had done this plenty of times since we were kids. I would grab the vines that hung down from her window. I grabbed the familiar green vines and started I guess what you would call "walking" up the side of the Parks house.
I got to her window and wrapped the vine around my hand for more leverage so I wouldn't slip. Because wearing slides while walking up someone's house isn't the smartest idea I could have come up with. But hey shoes are shoes and it was a miracle that I didn't slip. I came up to her window and I knocked. Knock.... Knock.... Knock.... She walked to her curtain and opened it. "Nate?! What the hell are you doing here?"
"I came to talk to you."
"No get out!" She started to close her curtains. "Melody wait!" I shouted after her I couldn't get in unless she let me in. So I was stuck there. Not wanting to come down, not welcomed to go in either. "Mel, please, I need to talk to y-" My foot slipped. In about 2 seconds what I wanted to say wouldn't matter anymore because I'd be dead. I was hanging on to the vine for dear life. "Mel! Help me!" I was yelling frantically hoping she would care enough about me to answer my plee. I was goner. My hand slipped. But when I thought I for sure was going to die, Mel's hand shot down and she caught me with a grunt. "Hurry and grab the vine!" I reached for the vine and pulled myself up to her window frame. I sat on her window ledge and watched her collapse onto her bed. "You idiot." She sat up and looked at me? "Slides? Really?" I looked down at my feet and shrugged my shoulders. I stepped inside her room and sat in the chair across from her bed. "No!" She had a quick reaction to me sitting in that chair, "I mean please don't sit in that particular chair." I stood up and walked to her window seat. And plopped down. "Melody, I'm sure you're angry with me,"
"Angry? Oh boy, no, I'm pissed." She got up, unlocked her bedroom door, and came back to sit down. "I know what I did was wrong and you have all the rights to be pissy at me or hate me." She glowered at me. "You're damn right I do."
"But please hear me out before you make any assumptions." I inhaled afraid of what to say next. "First off, I love you. Second off, I want to be with you." She rolled her eyes in complete frustration to what I was saying. "It was Ashley's fault. Okay. She said if she found out I was anywhere near you she would hurt you. Hurt you worse then the last time she did. Melody do you think I could handle knowing the fact that the reason you were hurt was because of me?! I already have to carry around a guilt knowing that you did this because of me." I pointed at her sleeves which had been rolled up but she rolled them back down. "Melody I love you so much and it pains me seeing you like this and I hate myself everyday because of it. But I can't let her hurt you. Not again. Not ever again. I promise you Mel, you will be happy and safe. Just give me sometime to figure everything out. Okay." She looked as if she might have a mental breakdown right on the spot. But she didn't. She pointed to the door and said "Get out." I felt as if I had just been stabbed in the gut with my own words. Which in a way I did. But knowing that it would make her feel better if I left, I sauntered out of her room, through the game room, down her spiral staircase, and out the door. I couldn't let Ashley know that I was at Mel's house for any reason. So I booked it home and went straight up to my room.
Sitting in my room, alone, it helped me come to the fact that Melody probably wanted me to disappear. Kind of like a magic trick. I thought back onto everything that had just happened. What did just happen? I had a near death or at least a fatal injury accident which she saved me from, and then she kicks me out of her house. Anyways I didn't care because I had let her know that she was going to be safe and happy. That's all I cared about. She was safe and happy. And after all we had a rebellious love.
