"No!!" I caught Melody just as she was about to fall into the water being careful not to cut her with the knife. She smiled up at me just as she was closed her eyes and her body went limp.
"No! Melody stay awake. Stay with me! I love you Meldoy! Please stay with me!" I leaned my forehead down on hers and let a few tears fall onto the forehead. I set her down on the side of the pool and climbed up the edge. "You jerk. What did she ever do to you? Why'd you have to take her from me?" My voice cracked on the last word and I was about to break down and cry when a numbness fell over me and I decided it would be okay to die now. I heard the safety realise on his gun. I looked up at Kyle with tears in my eyes, "Shoot me. Please just shoot me already!" He pulled the trigger and nothing happened. He was out of bullets.
I'd never wanted to hurt someone as much as I wanted to hurt Kyle at this very moment. The numbness washed away and was replaced by stone cold vengeance. I lunged at him with the knife as he rolled to the side dodging me attack. He was in a defensive stance and ready for my next attack. I had no clue how to fight a football played who is used to tackling guys twice his size to the ground, but when anger is flowing in your veins and your adrenaline is pumping overdrive you loose all sense of knowledge.
I lunged at him again. He pivoted to his left and swung his right arm as he did so. I connected with my jaw and I lost my balance a bit. I should've been able to feel the pain as soon as his fist connected with my jaw but instead it went numb. I guess my adrenaline was really working overtime.

I jabbed the hand with the knife to my right and as he took a step to his right I kicked him in his side with my left foot. It wasn't enough to send him to the ground but he did waver a little giving me a chance to strike again. I took a step closer and swung with my elbow and hit his jaw. He staggered back rubbing his jaw and I punched his nose. Due to the force behind my swing I was able to knock him over.

He hit the ground with a thud. I stood over him and waited for him to get up. Once he did I plunged the knife into his side. Once again he staggered back grabbing his side. He fell to his side a dark color appearing on his shirt.

I ran to Melody's side. She was still breathing which was good. I heard the ambulance approaching which meant she was able to call one before she took a bullet for me. I placed a kiss on the side of her temple. I ran up to the gates wiping tears out of my eyes. I got to the front as soon as the paramedics were pulling out a stretcher. "We need two of those! Hurry please! They'll die soon!"
"Where are they? Sir, where are the injured persons?" I pointed down to the path that led to the pool where Melody, Jake, and Kyle were laying unconscious. I started to walk with then and then collapsed on my knees. In a rush I was able to feel where Kyle had hit my jaw and my arm had felt like I'd been shot. Then I remembered I had. I gripped my arm and groaned in pain. A paramedic ran to my side, "Sir are you okay? We have back up on the way? Why don't you-" I cut the guy off, "I'm fine! Go to them and save them!" I rolled over and laid on my back holding my arm and taking deep breaths. "Breathe Nate. Breathe."  I muttered to myself. I stood up and slowly walked to where I had left Melody.

When I got down there they had Jake on a stretcher and Melody on another. They were waiting on backup for another stretcher for Kyle. Seeing Jake and Melody side by side I realized just how much they didnt looked alike. Melody had red hair while Jake had blonde hair. Jake didn't have freckles but Mel did. I walked over there and grabbed her hand. It felt cold but her chest was still rising and falling in slow intervals. Her skin looked chalky and pale. There were dark rings under her eyes and it made me wonder when was the last time she slept? I brought her hand up to my face and kissed her knuckles. I put her hand down and walked over to Jake. His lips were a bluish color and he was as white as a ghost. I couldn't see his chest moving so I just hoped he was alive.

The paramedics rushed Jake and Mel up to the ambulance. Even though it was a pretty cool Tennessee day, I was sweating bullets. It probably had to do with fact that I had been shot in the arm and it wasn't being treated. I had also lost a lot of blood from the wound while I was fighting Kyle.

I walked through the gates and sat on the sidewalk leaning against the stone wall. I closed my eyes as I heard this ambulance driving off and another one pulling up. Who knew it would take back up so long to get here. But it was alright because Mel and Jake were being rushed to the hospital. I tilted my head up to the sun and let it hit my face. I felt the sunshine on my face and I felt the cool breeze push through my hair which was now drenched in sweat. I opened my eyes and slowly everything went dark and disappeared as a slipped into unconscious.
