Life with out Melody was a bore. I hated Nate. I hated him with all my guts. He hurt her and that was not okay. I wanted to pound him six feet under but I decided I would spare more feelings if I didn't.
Melody >^<: Tessa come over here quick it's an emergency.
Me: On my way!
I hustled over to Melody's house. When I got to 14th and Judson I felt like the atmosphere had changed. It felt warm and comfortable. But it also felt as if something or someone was about to get it. Either way, I ran to Mel's house and pounded on her door. Todd opened up. Which was unusual because his mom never let him open the door. I figured his mom must not be there. "Todd, I need to see Melody." I was sweating and panting, which makes sense I ran about half a mile in high heel boots my mom wanted me to break in. "Okay I'll call for her." He turned and walked inside leaving the door open. "Jake! Tessa is here to see Melody!"
"Todd I asked for you to get Melody, not Jake." He nodded and was replaced by Jake. Every time I was over I was always intimidated by Jake. "Um, I'm here to see Melody."
"No, I thought you were here to grate cheese." He rolled his eyes, "She doesn't want to talk to anyone right now. She won't even let me in."
"I don't care I'm going to see her!" I ducked under his arm and races up the spiral staircase to her room. "Hey," Jake called back after me, "not fair you're short." I walked into her room to find her lying on her bed curled up crying. "Mel what's wrong?" I immediately ran to her side, "Mel what's wrong?!" She looked up at me and her eyes were blood shot which was a sign that she had been crying for awhile now. I sat on the side of her bed. "It was Nate wasn't it?" She gave me a little nod. She sat up right. "He climbed the vine in the back near my window, came in and told me he loved me."
"Why are you crying though? That's a good thing? Right?" She nodded, "So why exactly are you crying again?"
"Because I don't know what my feelings for him are. I have mixed emotions, I hate him but I love him. I want him here but when he is I tell him to leave. I don't know what to say!" She wept harder. I didn't know what to say either. How do you respond to someone who has complete opposite emotions for someone. The answer: you don't. "I'm not going to say anything okay Mel, just rant about whatever you want okay?" She nodded. She talked for hours. It didn't bother me because I cared and I asked her to talk to me.
I walked downstairs and grabbed a glass of water for Melody. She said she hadn't drank anything since before Nate arrived. And lets face it, who knows how long she had been sitting here crying all alone until she called. Just that simple thought made me sad.
When I brought the water back upstairs to Mel, I sat next to her and put my hand on her shoulder and asked, "You want me to stay the night?". She answered silently with a simple nod. When Mel looked up at me it was like I could see her soul through her eyes, it looked tired. Tired of struggling, tired of fake lies and broken promises, tired of all the confusion that came with love, and whether or not I want to accept it the truth is that they are in love. They are desperately in love. They are the air in each other's lungs, and it pained me to see that air sitting there. Not moving.
"I'll run a go grab my stuff from my mom's truck real quick okay." I offered a lame excuse for a smile, but Melody smiled back anyways.
"Okay."
"See you in a second Mel."
"Ya," she looked down, "in a sec."
When I walked out of her bedroom and down the hall I saw Jake sitting down near her door. Had he heard all of that? Had he been sitting there for the hours that Melody talked? He put his head in his hands and said, "I didn't know she was in that much pain." I stopped in front of him.
"Ya, it's pretty bad." A pause. "You can go in now Jake, she isn't going to lock her door." He looked up and smiled weakly and stood up and walked into her room. I remained standing there in front of the warm wood floor were Jake had just been sitting when I heard another set of sobs come from the closed door behind me. No matter how bad I wanted to turn around and comfort her, I knew she needed just Jake there right now. I walked down the stairs and right out the door. About halfway down the street I saw a black Corvette drive slowly down the street. Didn't that use to belong to Ashley's older brother? No I don't think so. But, maybe it did.
