Chapter 33

There were many things that Thomas was shocked to find, Newt found monitors that showed the glade. "So they were watching us, said Newt. Thomas found many things he didn't believe were actually there. He found a button that had been labeled "recording" and Thomas pushed it. Beep. "Hello," said a screen that appeared right in front of the gladers, "My name is Doctor Amanda Paige, and if you're seeing this recording, it means you have completed the maze trials." What was she talking about? What did she mean maze trials? "I know you all may be a little confused, scared, or even frustrated." Thomas was sure as shuck frustrated, they were put into a glade surrounded by a maze and their memories wiped. "But this has all been done for a reason," she said, "If you haven't already found out the sun has scorched the Earth, and a disease called the Flare has infected millions." That disease, the flare, the name sent chills up Thomas's spine. "We needed to research the disease, and we saw the horrible effects of the flare." A clip of what seemed to be a person with scales as skin, burnt skin, and blood rushing out of his mouth. It was horrifying, which made Thomas feel even worse about this flare disease. "As of now we don't have quite enough information to create the cure, so you will continue on to phase two." Phase two? Was this going to continue for the rest of their lives? The screen went blank and a blinding light came from a sore that opened to their right. "What do we do now?", asked Frypan. "We get out of here," responded Thomas. Before the gladers could take a step out armed...people filed into the room, masks covering their faces. "Get down!", yelled one, as he walked over to Thomas. The rest walked over to the rest of the gladers, guns raised. They pulled the gladers out into the blinding light, and Thomas's eyes adjusted to see...sand. Sand was everywhere. And he suddenly was sweating, heat was already making him tired. He and the gladers were being dragged toward what looked like a rusty bus. They arrived at their destination and the driver opened the doors, then the gladers filed on one by one and found seats.
