I woke up to the sound of my ringtone at seven in the morning. I checked the called ID and it was Andrea.
"Andrea, what the hell do you want?" I spoke in a groggy voice."Well good morning to you too sunshine! How's the hangover?"
"I feel like shit. Where are you anyways I hear cars." I sat up from my bed and made my way to the kitchen.
"Yeah well that's what you get for drinking so much. I'm getting some breakfast downtown with Beau.""Hey, it was my 21st birthday. I had to drink it's an unwritten rule."
"Well I think there's some aspirin above the kitchen sink. I gotta go. You're gonna be at work tonight right?"
"Yeah, I need to come up with my half of the rent right?"
"Haha. Very funny. Bye!"
Just before she can hang up I yelled, "Don't skip the morning sex with Beau!"
I look down at my watch. The one Andrea gave me two years ago when she got me a job at the bar that we first met at. It was a gift to make sure I was never late. I smiled. I owe everything to Andrea if it wasn't for her the city would have eaten me alive and I would have had to go crawling back to my old life.
I snap out of it and walk to the bathroom to take a shower. That night at work wasn't too crazy except for the fact that Andrea texted me that she will be late so I had to cover her tables In the reserved area. Things began to pick up around 9:00. Jeez it's a Sunday don't these people have jobs tomorrow.
I saw Danfort the Host lead a group of men to the reserved tables by the windows. They all wore suits and were clearly rich to the bone. The Armani suits were a dead give away. I turned around and went to the kitchen to get some orders. After dropping them off I went to the reserved table. Looking down at my note pad I asked, "Good evening my name is Scarlett and I will be your waitress this evening can I start you off with some drinks?""I'd rather you start me off a different way." Smirked a young man in a grey suit while the others chuckled. I just looked down again waiting for a real response.
"I'll have a scotch, neat." Said another man in a pitch black suit. I hadn't noticed him yet but his voice was so authoritative, firm, demanding and intimidating. I was too scared to look at his face. The others began to order their drinks as if all the fun In their night was sucked out by this man. As I walked away I could feel his eyes on me. I didn't want to go back. That man scared the crap out of me. When I arrived at the bar I saw Andrea coming out from the kitchen with the biggest smile on her face.
"Well nice of you to show up." I said sarcastically but was glad that she could take over the reserved tables.
She didn't say anything just slapped her left hand on the counter in front of me. There stood a miraculous silver ring with an average sized diamond on her finger."No!" I gasped
"Yeah!"
"No!"
"Yeah!"
"No! When? Why? How?"
"This morning at breakfast, because he loves me and he put in my pancakes."
"Oh, Hun I am so happy for you but I need you to do me a favor."
"What is it?" She asked in concerned voice.
"I need you to cover a table in the reserved section. It's just that there's very rude customers and you have more experience with assholes than me."
"Oh you mean that privileged life in Colorado didn't teach you how to deal with assholes?"
"Privileged life in Colorado." I mimicked her voice. She knew how much it annoyed me when she talked about my past especially in public.
"Alright I'll take over." She said"Thanks bae."
