"Hello Runnaway." Marcus said ruffling Vesper's blond unruly hair. His emerald green eyes sparkled with amusement as Vesper turned her head to hide her smile. While she was happy to see Marcus again, she was not happy to see the person who he rode with. Speaking of the devil, she was busy lecturing her three friends over the danger of traveling without telling her where they are going and whatnot.
"You must be wondering why we came after you." He laughed.
"Why yes, I am quite curious." Vesper answered annoyance evident in her voice.
"Well, we were going to take you to Grandola ourselves in order to... I'll let Delighla explain the reason; she would burn me to a crisp if I was the one to tell you, but since you and your friends decided to disappear, we had no choice but to follow you."
"So, can they stay?"
"Of course they can. We have maybe a half-hour ride till we reach the city. "
"Delighla came, I get that. But why did you come?"
"That's an excellent question. It's so that we can get to where we need to go. I have connections thought this continent and so, it is my duty to assist you in this journey. Plus everyone will recognize the 'princess' and the 'Human Torch', but they won't recognize someone like me."
"Yes, you're right. You won't possibly stand out in the city with your green hair. People will totally ignore the moss colored hair growing on your head."
"Ha. ha. ha. For your information, green hair doesn't stick out when you wear a hood. Plus my hair is dark green, so it really doesn't stick out."
"If that makes you feel better." Vesper shrugged.
They both shared a good laugh until He cleared his throat.
"What?"
"What you are about to do is not going to be fun. It's to prepare you for the tournament. You need to focus on this."
The atmosphere quickly shifted.
"How can I focus on this when people are getting slaughtered."
"It's because they are getting slaughtered that you need to focus."
"What does that-"
"Listen. You don't have powers. You might be skilled at fighting but you have no experience, and you are the princess. Not a warrior. If you want to help, than get stronger and focus on the task at hand."
"You're right, Marcus."
Doesn't feel right.
"Good girl. Now, let's go free your friends from the rantings of that mad woman."
They both rode their horses up to Delighla and the rest of the group. She almost laughed when she saw her friend's faces. Trenton's face looked like he needed to relieve himself but couldn't, Haden's face looked like a sad puppy dog, Sala was crying silently- which looked like something they all wished they could be doing, and Charlie looked like Charlie, there really isn't a way to describe his look.
"-and then the bandits will –" Delighla clearly just scratched the surface of her one sided argument.
"Oy, Delighla, I left the big reveal for you." Marcus interrupted.
She stopped mid lecture, shoed them away, and slowed her horse to be right next to Vesper in order to begin.
"Vesper, what we are about to do, no one else must know of it."
