"Mommy can you tell the story again!" The blond haired, eight year old Vesper begged, tugging on her mother's dress as they walked into the massive room.

A room fit for the princess and good enough to satisfy her mother.

"Once there was a girl," Vespera's mom paused and smiled at her daughter, who looked at her mother.

"An orphan girl, who no one ever paid attention to. She survived off of scraps and trash that people threw on the ground. She was a rat, a spec of dirt, stuck to the bottom of someone's shoe."

"Nooooo!", Vespera squealed, squeezing her small fists till they were white.

"However, times were changing and so was she. There was a great war in the land and the evil Shadow lord and his great army were close to conquering all four of the great kingdoms."

"Why is he called the Shadow Lord?" Vespera asked.

"Because, after he conquered and destroyed kingdoms and villages, there was nothing but darkness. All you could see was the shadow of the death and destructing that he left behind. Now, Hush Vespera." Vespera nodded and closed her mouth.

"The little girl was changing too. She woke up with a purple diamond on her sternum."

The mother pointed to her diamond that was on the center of her chest.

"The little girl knew what purple meant and it scared her. It means that not only was she was a vamp, she was royalty. That meant that she would be targeted if anyone ever found out. The Shadow lord was effectively wiping out all of royal bloods, which would eliminate all future threats. With the Shadow lord growing in power, his spies were everywhere which meant that she wasn't safe. Eventually, someone found out and she was hunted down. She ran from village to village, trying to locate the resistance. While running through one village, she met a boy, a handsome, stubborn fool of a boy who was trying to find the resistance as well. They soon fell in love."

Vespera's eyes twinkled when the word "love" was spoken. The mother thoroughly amused with her daughter's reaction, laughed.

"I bet it was her laugh that caused him to fall in love." Vespera said honestly.

"Well, that was only part of It." the mother laughed out.

"So the girl and the boy made it to the resistance and they were able to become the final piece of the puzzle to win the war. The girl had amazing power and was trained. Once she had learned as much and as fast as possible, she set out across the land in order to unite the people. By defeating the Shadow lord's minions and some major posts along the way, the girl and boy made a name for themselves."

"What name?" Vesper interrupted yet again.

Her mother took a breath and whispered in Vespers's ear.

"They called them heroes. Together they brought the shadows down. They lit the flame of hope that showed all the people that they can survive, and that darkness will be vanquished." The air in the room was filled with pride.

"The Heroes united all of the kingdoms who were split over their petty problems and created an alliance that was on equal ground with the power of the shadow lord. Eventually, the girl and boy fought the shadow lord himself in a fierce battle. The End." the mother concluded.

Vespers gasped frantically and her eyes widened.

This can't be! It can't end like this! Vespera's mind screamed.

"Nooooo! Who won Mommy? Tell me please!!!!" She whined. Vesper ripped off her covers and shook her mother, who was sitting on the side of the bed. The mother laughed her famous laugh. The contagious one that brought light to all of the hearts who heard it.

"Fine, you little whiny baby. But you have to get back underneath the covers first." the mother giggled.

Vespera, quick as lightning, dove back underneath her covers. That was probably the fastest obedience that Vespera's mother had ever seen. Her mother rolled her eyes at the fact that a story Vesper had heard hundreds of times, was listened to with such attention and curiosity as if she had never heard it before.

Well at least she doesn't want me to tell her silly stories about princes rescuing princesses. The mother thought.

"They defeated the evil shadow lord and sealed his evil power. After all that was said and done, the girl and the boy were married and were given the most powerful kingdom. The official End." the mother concluded, placing a kiss on Vespers forehead.

"Night mommy." Vespera tiredly called out.

"Mommy?" Vesper's voice asked quietly. She wasn't quiet because she was tired but because she understood the gravity of the question she was about to ask. "Where's Daddy?"

The Queen froze. She was expecting this question to be asked at some point but every time she thought about how to answer it, but even she didn't know the answer. Vespera looked at her mom and waited. Vespera new that this was a hard question because every time she asked Hiome, her nurse maid, would grow tense and say that only God knows. Finally after a good minute of silence her mother, the queen, answered.

"He's de- He's dead."

Vespera only nodded, because all she had wanted was for someone to tell her the truth. At least she wouldn't have to wonder about all the possibilities now.

"Thanks Mom." Her little voice bravely, spoke.

Vespera yawned and her eyes slowly fluttered close. Her mother was completely taken aback. That's exactly how he would react.

This child truly does take after you, my love. The queen thought, as if somehow it would reach her husband.

"Goodnight my little princess." The Queen whispered as she quietly got up from her spot in the bed and left the room.

The Queen walked quickly down the hallway, past the guards who waved, and into her room. Her eyes burned with tears that demanded to fall. The bed was empty and cold, like it had been for years. Tears began to flow down from her exceptionally blue eyes. It was all too much. Where was the boy she had fallen in love with not so long ago? She stood there in the middle of the room, unable to move.

The door opened up behind her, allowing the torch light to light up the room.

"Mom." the boy's voice called out to her. "It's ok. I'm here now. You don't have to cry." He stumbled up to his mother and gave her a hug.

She embraced him and sobbed even more. She knew that she shouldn't be sad because she honestly had the best children she could ask for. She released him and ruffled his blond mess of supposed hair.

"Ok, go to bed now. I love you Stephen."

"Love you too, and don't cry anymore because I'll be able to hear it, no matter where you are." He said, his sleepy eyes becoming sharp with seriousness and his fluffy, wolf ears twitching.

"Yes, sir." His mother laughed. She blew him a kiss and he left waving his hand in fake disgust.

She smiled and climbed happily into bed. Truly, there was no reason to cry anymore.
