Just want to say that some small changes were made to chapter 10. You might want to re-read it, maybe add a star while your at it. Just uh- putting it out there.
Of all times to not appear out of nowhere, this was the worst. She has to talk to Delighla.
Why would she take me here knowing that I might have to kill? Did she take me here, knowing that i would have to kill?
Vesper was waiting in her dingy room. Waiting for answers that she knew she wouldn't get. Delighla wouldn't come. She knew that, yet she couldn't extinguish the small hope inside that whispered that what's happening is just a misunderstanding.
Everyone knew about this. Does that mean...Neeko knew about this all along? Befriending me with the knowledge that we might have to kill each other. I can't take this.
She wanted to scream and let the frustration out, but that would cause issues for others.
-Screw it!
She screamed until all the air from her lungs was completely empty and her lungs gave out. Within seconds someone was pounding on her door. She opened it and was greeted by the two guards who monitor the hallway, who after hearing that she was just screaming to let of steam, were supremely annoyed. She noticed that Neeko had his door cracked to see if she was alright, but the moment she spotted him the door slammed shut.
How childish. Well, two can play at that game.
She went back in her room and slammed her door too. Moments after she sat on her bed a knock came at the door.
"Go away. I'm not in the mood."
The knock came again.
"I said go away!"
The knock turned into a bang.
That's it.
Vesper got up and opened the door, ready to choke the person doing this. Before she saw the face of the person, her body was wrapped in a hug and lifted off the ground. It's a familiar sensation and she she returns the hug. Her frustration is finally released in a flurry of hiccups and sobs. Marcus could always get her to talk without saying a word.
"Shhhh. It's ok. Empty your tears so you may be rid of them." Marcus gently spoke while patting Vesper's back.
He picked her up bridal style, closed the door with his foot, sat down on the hard bed and waited. Since she was little, he had always thought of her as his own and she thought of him as her dad. It's not as if they spoke about it, but that's just how they felt and neither had to voice it. Vesper cried until her throat free hoarse.
"This is the only time that you're allowed to cry."He said as he wiped the tears from her eyes.
"Now tell me what's weighing down your spirit."
Vesper took a deep breath and began. She talked about the small things that bothered her, which lead up to the big things. Only leaving out about the parts involving her brother. Marcus turned her to face toward his and looked into her red and puffy eyes.
"I want you to look at me. This- what you're crying about, is not important. In fact it's pointless. Crying about this stuff isn't helping anyone. In fact it's only hurting you. This isn't about saving the village or winning these fights. You're crying because of self pity and a queen cannot afford to be selfish while expecting to prosper."
Vesper stopped immediately and sat frozen. She was expecting some inspirational speech or message. Something like receiving his pity to help get her through this rough time, but this is what she truly needed. It wasn't a push but a shove. Marcus moved her off his lap and got up, making his way towards the door.
