Imagine...

I lay awake in my cell. I never got to sleep anymore, at least not peacefully. I always made sure to sleep with one eye open. I can never learn to trust this apocalyptic world.

Rick and his group accepted me and my older brother a while ago. Sadly, my brother was left back at Hershel's farm so I'm not sure what happened to him. I'd like to think he made it out alive. However, I've made some good friends, partners in crime, to help me in this world that's been taken over.

Beth Greene, she was the only girl I met around my age since this started. She is only two years older than me but we still bonded. We became close when baby Judith was born because we both love to play with her.

Carl Grimes, he's my closest friend. We are the same age and so growing up the same age together we were kind of into the same things. Although, he's a boy, he still manages to make me smile in this terrible world.

I sat up from my bed and grabbed my gun and a match. I walked from my cell to outside quietly so, I didn't wake anyone.

Once I got outside, I got a little closer to the gate but, not far from the prison. I set down my gun onto the grass and found a small pile of twigs. I lit the match, creating a spark of light which quickly changed to fire. I threw the match onto the pile and creating a small fire, just enough to give me some light.

I laid down onto the soft grass and looked into the sky. The moon giving off its natural light and the stars surrounding it.

I heard footsteps coming towards me and even though I knew it wasn't a walker, I still jolted upwards, frightened. Behind me stood Carl's silhouette. I grinned at him and laid back down. "What are you doing out here so late?" He asked, sitting down next to me. "I couldn't sleep. Lay with me?" I replied. "Of course" Carl said, lifting his hat off his head and placing it down on the ground next to him.

"You know, I always find you out here at night. I think you have insomnia" Carl said jokingly. "No, I just like to look at the stars" I answered. "Yea, the stars are like tiny little reminders that the world will get back to how it used to be, because some things, like the stars remained the same" I said placing my head onto his chest. "Yea, that's why I like the night sky and the day time sky. The clouds and the stars remind me not to give up on this world" Carl told me while playing with my hair.

I began to play with the buttons on his shirt. Unbuttoning them, re-buttoning them. We laid there in a peaceful and serene silence. Staring at the stars. "Do you ever wonder what it'd be like if this was all over?" Carl asked, beginning to braid a piece of my hair. "I would hope it would return to normal but now I would have some new friends" I said turning my head to look him in the eyes. "I'm glad we're friends, (Y/N)" Carl said. "Same" I whispered as he placed a kiss to my forehead. "I love you. You're my best friend" I told him in a hushed tone. "Same" Carl replied.
