Liam and I got into our house and closed the door. The wind was really picking up.
“I’m glad to be back.” Liam sighed.
“I know. They were staring at me like a piece of meat.”
“So uhh, what do we have to eat?” he asked.
I looked at him and laughed. He didn’t mean that. I walked into the kitchen and found ingrediants to make creamy tomato soup. The family’s always been crazy about creamy tomato soup. Growing up, we couldnt afford much. Soup, bread, vegetables, corn, and little pieces of candy is all we really ate. We take time to apprechiate what we have now.
Liam walked in and hovered over me.
“That smells so good. Is it done?”
“Yeah. I gotta get me some and put crackers in it. Hold on a sec.”
“Oh, I’ve got it from here. You go sit down.”
I was exhausted. Being under stress with anxiety and having to keep it under control deminishes your energy. Really fast. I plopped my shoes off and my jacket, falling onto the couch. I curled up and turned to the weather channel.
“Severe thunderstorms are likely for tonight. The best thing to do is grab some candles and assume the lights go out.”
I stared at the tv, then to outside. The sun was barely able to make it’s sunset. The clouds in the distance covered it with dark grey clouds. Liam came in with the soup.
“Thanks. One more favor? Set the cinnamon candles mum got for us last year in the bedroom. I’m too tired to move. It’s gunna storm really bad.”
He nodded and left the room. I sipped the soup and my phone buzzed. John.
“I’ll be calling you tomorrow to let you know what will be the next step. Stay hidden.”
I put the phone on the side table and sat back, sipping the last of the soup. Minutes passed and I flipped through the channels. The storm hit with a heavy rainfall. Liam walked back in.
“I’m sorry but I’ve go to go to bed.” I stood up.
Liam swooped me up in his arms bridal style. I was shocked and looked at him.
“What are you doing?” I asked.
He carried me into the bedroom and sat me down. His hands went through my pajama drawer.
“You said you were too tired to move. Get changed while I lock up the house.” he smiled.
I smiled at him then to my feet. He left and I changed really fast. The light in the living room went out, then a flash of lightning lit it up. Thunder cracked. Liam changed while I brushed my teeth.
“I’m dressed.” he said from outside the door.
As I opened the door, I stopped in thought. From what Zacko had said, did I really seem to be a model?
“Hey Liam?” I asked.
“Hmm?”
“Am I model material?”
He stopped pulling the blanket back and looked at me. I wasn’t looking at his face though. As he stood straight, his muscles changed. I was so stunned at his figure. He’s cute, I’ll admit it. Is that weird?
“Want me to be honest?” he raised an eyebrow.
I almost smiled. I nodded.
“Yeah but I’d hate for some guy to want the outside. You’re uhh….you’re very pretty and it’d be a shame for people to only see that. I think you’re pretty inside and out. Even though you could kill someone in a heartbeat.”
I busted out in laughter and covered my mouth. Liam chuckled and climbed into bed. As I walked over to the other side of the bed, lightening struck repeativly and was loud. A bad storm’s okay but when the thunder hurts your ears, it can get a bit scary. I threw myself in bed and covered myself, including my face. Liam peeked his face under the covers.
“What are you doing?” He smiled.
“Hiding. Yes, I’ll admit I’m afraid.”
He stared at me with a smile. It was so dim but the lights from the city lit up our faces enough to notice structures. He then kissed my forehead, put some hair behind my ear and turned me on my side, facing the windows.
“I’m here. Just sleep.”
His arms wrapped around me and I fell asleep to the patter of rain.
**********************************************
My eyes shot open. The clock infront of me said two thirteen in the morning. I heard another creak behind me. Adrenaline shot through me…with a little hint of fear. Liam’s arm was underneath my head. He was so peaceful…another creak, but closer. I slipped my hand underneath my pillow smoothly and slipped it out, sat up, turned on my knee and stood up on the bed. Pointed my gun and cocked it. I saw the figures face and shot right past it to give him fear. Liam shot up and hit the light switch.
“What the bloody hell?!” Liam shouted.
I opened my mouth in shock. It was the meak guy standing next to Zacko at the dock shack. The guy I thought could do no harm. He pulled a gun out and cocked it at me.
“What are you doing here?” I asked.
“Like I’m going to tell you.”
Liam got his gun out and pointed it to the guy.
“You pull that trigger and I’ll blow your brains out.” Liam said.
Gun still on him, I got to my phone and called John.
“I need people now. Someone’s come into the house. Just one.”
I hung up and paid more attention to the guy.
“Name?” I asked.
He was quiet. Liam cocked his gun.
“The next question I ask better have an answer to it. What is you’re name?” I asked.
He locked eyes with Liam and Liam gave him a strait face.
“Malcom. What’s your name? You’re real name…”
“It’s Lucy. Shut up. I ask the questions.”
“I don’t think it is by the way you pulled that gun out.”
I pulled the trigger again and it passed the other side of him. It was still raining out. It got silent after the shot fired.
“I will shoot you if you don’t shut the hell up.” I said.
Liam suddenly tackled Malcom and got the gun away. I went around the bed and got his gun. I heard banging at the door.
“Get it. I’m fine.” Liam said, getting Malcoms hands.
I ran to the door and looked out the peep hole. John and big people.
“That was fast.” I said.
“I was in the neighborhood. Do you know him?” He asked.
The team got Liam off Malcom and hand-cuffed him.
“I saw him at the bar with Zacko. That’s the only thing.”
He nodded and looked at Malcom as he was pulled by. Liam came up next to me.
“What’s going on, John?” Liam asked.
He was silent and fixed his trench coat.
“All I can say is this is just the beginning.”
