"Alright you win," states Terry, not at all seeming bothered by his utter defeat.
"Looks like you still need to work on increasing your speed," I reply rather smugly.
"Yes well, where I lack speed, my good looks make up for." I can't help but laugh at him and he laughs too, easing my mood.
"You can't rely on your 'good looks' for everything," I remark half jokingly.
"You underestimate the power of charm, my dear," he remarks with his signature grin.
As we are walking into the auditorium, a bunch of vampire girls call Terry over to sit with them.
"Crap, I wanted to ask you something," Terry says, turning back to me after having started walking towards the group of girls.
"It's fine, go appease your fans." He grins and walks away. I watch him go and am about to turn away when I catch several of the girls from the group giving me dirty looks. I chuckle and roll my eyes without bothering to hide it. I look around but can't find Jaheara so I sit down in a random seat. Shortly after, the lights dim and the President of the of the academy walks onto the stage to deliver his speech.
The next two hours pass by in a blur because I fall asleep. As I sit there knocked out, the backs of my eyelids suddenly go from black to bright white. My eyes pop open to see a flaming hand an inch from my face.
"Jaheara, is that really necessary?" I ask in a dangerously calm voice.
"Well I called your name a bunch of times but you never answered so... yes it is!" she smiles triumphantly. I sigh, stretch, and then stand up, looking around to see that people are filing out the doors.
"Come on," Jaheara says impatiently. "We have to go help out the newcomers." Crap.
Jaheara and I walk outside the auditorium to find several plastic tables set up, each one dedicated to a different supernatural race. Witches, shape-shifters, warlocks, druids, fairies, healers, vampires, werewolves... I pause in front of the werewolf table unconsciously.
There are three senior year guys at that table, two of which are helping the incoming freshman. The one, though, is standing a little off to the side and when he sees me staring, he doesn't growl at me like I thought he would. Instead, he looks at me with a 'what-the-hell-is-that' kind of look and starts to subtly sniff the air. I raise my eyebrow at him but before I can do anything else, Jaheara grabs my arm and drags me towards the vampire table.
I shake her off and ask if she saw how the one werewolf reacted.
"What are you talking about?" she asks.
I just mumble a "never mind" and we both continue towards the table. It is the last one on the end of a row of tables set up outside the auditorium. And it is just my luck to not only be stuck with three of the girls who gave me a nasty look earlier, but also for the table to not be set up at all. As Jaheara and I approach, the three nasty-faced girls pause their conversation and look at us. The one on the left has an air of arrogance about her when she says, "Oh look girls, it's the two misfits of Sandabury Academy."
Looks like we've got ourselves a cheerleader Barbie here with her bleach blonde hair, manicured nails, hard-core makeup, and her navy blue uniform top buttoned way too revealingly. She stands there with her arms crossed and a small smirk on her face thinking she just huwt ouw feewings. The two other girls to her right snicker at her insult. I pause where I'm at for a second, turn to Jaheara right as she turns to me and we laugh our asses off simultaneously.
"Well... hahaha.... at least... hahaha... I'm not that desperate for attention," I finish in a serious tone and emphasize towards her top. Barbie is surprised for a second but quickly composes herself.
"Well then I hope you don't mind manning the table by yourself," she says looking smug.
"Can I get you anything else, Princess?" I ask with a mocking bow.
"My name is Sabrina and you would do well to remember that," says the Barbie.
"Or what?" I challenge, stepping forward slightly. Barbie just continues to give me an arrogant look.
"I don't have time for this," she finally states. "April, Sarah, lets go." Omg the first letters of their names spell ASS hahaha, that's precious. As the three girls turn and walk away, I explain to Jaheara what I just realized. She laughs so hard she starts rolling on the ground. "The ASS squad!?" She finally manages to choke out.
Eventually we get our station set up and shortly after some newbie vamps make their way over to Jaheara and I with Terry nowhere to be found.
