"Alright everyone, the show's over. Go back to your tables and helping the incoming Freshman with scheduling their classes."
There's some murmurs going through the crowd as they slowly break off to go back to their tables. As I turn around to start walking back to mine, I make eye contact with Jaheara. She has a smirk on her face which suddenly turns into an "oh shit" face. I turn my head slightly to the side, right as a hand grabs my shoulder. If it weren't for the fact that I know who that hand belongs to, I would have ripped it off. Instead I just turn around, becoming face to face with the President.
"As for you, Valerie, I expect to see you in my office in the next five minutes." I simply stand there looking at him as he is suddenly surrounded by a giant gush of wind, wrapping around him until he is completely engulfed. Then the wind subsides and he is gone. Show off.
"Would you like a will for the death sentence you just signed?" Asked Jaheara with a grin.
"It's not like I have a choice about meeting with him or not. Besides, I don't regret kicking those little punks' asses."
"Still, I'd get going if I were you. I don't want to have to start searching for a new roommate. Could you imagine if I got stuck with a fairy? I don't think I could handle all that glitter," Jaheara says while scrunching up her face.
"You forget, I'm already dead," I say mischievously before spinning around on my heel and taking off with my vampiric speed in the direction of the President's mansion.
-----------------------
Four minutes and fifty five seconds later...
I arrive at the door of the President's office and go right through without bothering to knock. I know I arrive in the nick of time because I hear a, "You had five more seconds to live," right as I walk in the room. The President was standing behind his giant burgundy desk, pocket watch in hand.
See, the president is your stereotypical old school "gentlemen" type with the suits and a spectacle stuck on his face 24/7. It could be 100° out and he would still be wearing a suit. He's also the most powerful warlock I've ever met so he deserves some respect. He doesn't even look up when I plop down into a big armchair, dangling one leg over an armrest and resting my head on the other one.
"Everyone's concern in my death is really touching and all, but it's kinda pointless considering I'm already dead," I say matter-of-factly.
"What is the matter with you? Are you purposely trying to ruin me?" He asks in a louder than usual tone. Okay woah, this guy never yells so I know I really must have pissed him off. Whoops.
"Mind telling me what I did that was so bad? Because those punks deserved to get their asses kicked!" I said defensively while jetting straight upright.
"You obviously slept through orientation. I suppose that's better than getting drunk but what you missed was important," the President replied in his stern voice.
I relax back into the chair. "What could be so damn important in a speech you've given for all four years that I've been here?" I ask absentmindedly while I play with my own customized version of the V15's.
He sits down in his chair, props his arms up on his elbows and interlaces his fingers.
"One of the Overseers is coming to observe the academy next week".
Fuck.
The Overseers are a bunch of old farts that "oversee" the supernatural creature academies all over the world. Every once in a blue moon they get off of their ancient asses and visit the academies they think are getting too rowdy.
"I swear, ever since those nutheads found out about Jaheara they have kept an overly cautious eye on this academy," I reply hatefully, crossing my arms.
The President just sighs and puts a hand over his eyes. By looking at him like this I can really start to see the stress of running a supernatural creature academy taking a toll on him. He's starting to have that gray hair come in right by his sideburns. I swear he reminds me of Dr. Strange. I'm not sure why he lets me see him when he's so vulnerable looking.
I can tell that there's something more going on that he's not telling me but I don't want to push it. I'm so busy thinking that he catches me off guard when he suddenly breaks the silence by saying, "You have to protect her you know. That's why I picked you as her roommate. If you hadn't brought her to me there's no telling what the Overseers would have done to her once they found her."
I give him a "where the hell did that come from" look but nod anyway. The President starts shuffling through some papers on his desk and I take this as my queue to leave. I stand up and turn towards the door. As soon as I swing open the door, the President clears his throat, causing me to pause.
"Don't let me catch you fighting potential students on my campus again unless you want me to nail you to the roof of this building so you slow roast in the sun." I slowly take out my V15's, put them on, and turn my head slightly to the side.
"You can try."
