Several days have passed since the portal disappeared. Jaheara handled the news of her father's death pretty well and doesn't blame me in the slightest bit. She also insists that she wouldn't hate me when she starts to remember her past. Guess I'll just have to wait and see what happens when the time comes.

Shortly after my confession, Jacques and Darius showed up looking worse for wear, but at least they were still alive. Jacques filled us in on everything he could in regards to what happened at the academy while we were gone. Apparently, Dante used the ASS squad to have Jacques falsely imprisoned in the basement of his mansion to get him out of the way. Then Dante had the Doppelgangers kill all three girls to tie up loose ends. That's cold, even for me. Afterwards Terry, Logan, and I filled Jaheara in on everything that happened after she was taken. Needless to say she was a bit overwhelmed, especially about the part where her bestie turned out to be a hybrid. Despite that, she didn't freak out about my appearance like everyone else has so that's a bonus, especially since I'm only going to stand out on campus even more now.

The day after I slayed the Demon King, the Overseer Council reopened the portals to the academy, allowing staff and employees to return to help clear out the rubble. Sadly, the incident report concluded that twelve students had lost their lives during the demon attack. While most died trying to defend themselves, one of the students was found trapped in a building and had been burned alive. Another two were crushed in debris from a building that caved in on itself. Jacques was put in charge as acting head of the academy until the Overseers could find someone to officially replace Dante. He sent out condolences to all the families of the departed and even held their ceremonies on campus once the rubble had been cleared away.

The whole campus cleanup process was expedited when the Overseers were generous enough to send a wizard to help rebuild. The Council was even kind enough to send the Cleaners- a group of mind flayers used to wipe people's memories. A fitting name, especially since the Overseers felt the need to have the Cleaners wipe all the minds of the students after making sure to account for all of them, even the ones that didn't want to go back to the academy. The only minds that weren't wiped were the staff members that chose to keep their memories, everyone under the employ of the Council, Terry, Logan, Jaheara, and I. Oh, and the families that lost someone, but they had to sign a contract stating they would not speak to anyone about what has now been officially dubbed as The Accident. Not even the other supernatural schools know about what happened at Sandabury Academy.

I asked Jacques to see if he could do anything about the forceful wiping of the student's memories. He explained that there's a clause in the fine print of every academy's enrollment papers stating that in the event of a student's death on campus, all student's are required to have their minds wiped of any information relating to the event. At least Jacques agreed with me on how fucked up that is. He even said that despite being a higher up on the Council, he's still considered more of a field worker and doesn't have the jurisdiction to have that policy reevaluated. So basically, what happens at Sandabury Academy stays at Sandabury Academy, and all other academies for that matter.

Once the Cleaners were done doing their jobs, they went back to the Council, taking Dante's body with them. All Jacques could tell me was that there was a special burial process for all current and former members of the Overseer Council. That's not sketchy at all. Shortly thereafter, the wizard sent by the Council also finished restoring all the damaged classroom buildings. Unfortunately, that process did not include restocking the buildings with standard classroom supplies such as desks, chairs, beds for the dorms and whatnot. Jacques was pretty pissed about that since he had to cancel the rest of the semester because there was no way he could have all the buildings ready anytime soon, even with the help of staff.
