Aticus's POV
Blinding, bright lights. Suddenly, a cold, steel-edged voice cut the silence.
"So. Aticus, is it?" I couldn't talk, but she knew this since there was a gag in my mouth.
I start to thrash in my bindings. I had to get out of this cold, white place. I couldn't see anything other than the roof, since I was strapped tightly to the matress.
"No use struggling, these are micro-fiber bonds. Nothing can break them, at least, not until we're done with you!" Suddenly, a looming face appeared in my line of vision.
President Coin.
I glare as hard as I could, which is probably the most I could do since I was strapped down.
"You know, since I am a kind person, I'm going to take out your gag, and you can ask questions."
She cruelly rips out my gag, and it felt like my teeth had been pulled out. As soon as I could formulate enough saliva, I spit it in her face.
She slaps me in the face, hard. I could feel a bruise welling up already. She takes a cloth from beside me and wipes her face.
"No questions I take it?" She sneers.
"Wait." I say as she starts to turn around. My voice was hoarse, and I was thirsty.
"Why am I here?" I continue as she pauses.
"Oh, you'll find out soon enough." She snaps her fingers, and people in white clothes enter the room, clad head to toe in medical suits.
Confusion meddles with my thoughts.
"Their going to help me?" I ask.
"It depends on how you look at it. But yes, generally, they will." She smiles wickedly, and leaves.
"Here. Drink." One of the people in the white suits said.
He puts a cup with a straw under my chin so I could reach it with my mouth. I gratefully drink, and when I am no longer thirsty, I ask.
"Where am I?" I ask. "Am I in 13?"
"No. But don't worry. You're safe."
All of the examiners start to repeat, over and over, this simple sentence.
"You are safe. You are safe. You are safe."
Suddenly, they change the mantra.
"You're in the Capitol. You are safe." I find myself believing them.
I am safe. I am in the Capitol. Eventually, the words blur together, into one sentence, that I repeated in my mind over, and over.
I am safe in the Capitol. I am safe in the Capitol.
The water had been drugged. I fight to get out of my haze. I start to shout random things. Spittle flew out of my mouth. One of the doctors took a needle from the side, and stabbed it into my arm.
"A little nightshade mixed with tracker jacker venom everyday should do the trick." Says the man to his friends.
"Not enough to kill, of course." He continues. Pain like nothing I had ever felt before was shooting up my arm. I scream. "Just enough to... How to say? Jumpstart the system? Enhance the senses?"
Another doctor came and released the bindings over my head. I whipped my head around to look at my arm, and what I saw nearly killed me. All of my veins had turned black. Unbearable pain was slowly crawling up my arm, over my shoulder and into my neck.
As the pain progressed, so did the black tendrils.
