The knock continued as I got up. I ran down the stairs and too the door. I looked threw the peephole to see a person I didn't know. My heart sunk, I had hoped to find James... Or my parents... Or even my grandparents... But no, it was no one I knew. Ashton came downstairs. "wh-" I cut him off with a "Shh".  "I don't know them" I whispered. He looked threw the peephole. He gasped and opened the door. "Charlie?!" He said opening the door. "Ashton!?" Charlie exclaimed. I stood there awkwardly. They hugged "I thought I lost you back there!" Charlie said. "Yeah, me too!" Ashton replied. They parted and they both looked at me. "Oh uh this is Alex" Ashton said gesturing to me.  I smiled "Good to meet you" I said. "You too" Charlie said smiling back. "He and I were friends before it started... We survived together for about a month... Then we got separated..." Ashton explained. "Yeah, I'm so glad I saw the water!" Charlie laughed. "Me too" Ashton chuckled. I smiled, it was nice seeing smiles and laughter again.

After talking for a while we then carefully carried the cups, buckets and pots inside. We brought them all inside and then poured them into bottles. It made about elven bottles. It was amazing how much it rained that night.                                                                                                                                                                          Charlie was fifteen and Ashton was sixteen, making me the youngest. Charlie had dark hair like Ashton's though he had blue eyes unlike Ashton who had green.  We then ate some food and talked some more. For the first time in months laughter was plentiful. We talked, laughed and smiled more then we have in so long... It felt really good.   We all learned a lot about each other that day and enjoyed ourselves a lot.

That night we went to our rooms. Charlie was now sharing a room with Ashton. I then went to my room and laid on my bed, with a sigh I got myself tucked into bed. I quickly fell asleep. When I woke it was bright and sunny. We spent the warm day enjoying ourselves for once. We also worked though, we checked the paint can traps and the ones protecting the entrances to the porch. We also chopped up some wood for fire to boil water in a couple days. After this it got late and we ate dinner and went to bed.

We lived fine for another 2 months, it was September now which meant it was getting cold. We spent many days at a time chopping up wood, carrying it inside into the basement and stacking it up for the winter. We decided to go on a run and get some extra food. Charlie, Ashton and I all walked down the street, weapons ready. We were headed to a gas station not far from the house. Sadly when we got there it was not what we wanted to see. Moaners limped around the gas station, raspy groans echoed around. We sighed at the sight. There was at least ten from what I could see. "We really need the supplies for the winter" I said with a sigh. "Yeah" Ashton said. "we can clear it out... We can do it! You said it yourself we needed the supplies for winter, So lets do it!" Charlie said. "Yeah, I'm in" I said a little nervous. "Yeah... Okay" Ashton said. We readied our weapons and walked towards the gas station.

We got in there right away. Before I knew it they were half gone, but then more came. Five went down but now there was a dozen total. We continued fighting for we couldn't back out. Everything was fine until one of the moaners came at me, it was fine at first but then, I tripped. I fell on my back. "Alex!" Charlie yelled wanting too come to help but was fighting his own. The moaner got on top of me, grabbing at me and moaning. I scrambled for my sword but I had dropped it when I fell, so it was just out of reach. I tried to push the moaner off me but he was to heavy. It almost bit me at one point but I tried to keep it away.  Finally a sword went through its head, I pushed it off of me and got up. Then I realized, my sword was still on the ground, but a sword went through the moaners head, but I was the only one with a sword. All these thought went through my head but the last one was 'James'.

I looked up to see my best friend looking at me with worried eyes, to see if I was okay. Charlie and Ashton looked at him like 'um who are you exactly'... "James!!!" I yelled hugging him tightly. "Woah there, its good to see you too" he said with a smile hugging me back. "I thought I lost you" I said still hugging him. "Never" he smirked. I wouldn't let him go, I was so happy to see him, I couldn't even describe the happiness of fining him. I finally found my best friend after six months of survival, death and moaners I found my best friend and I couldn't be happier. As we stood there hugging each other,  I promised myself I would never let myself  lose him again.
