Time seemed to fly too quickly and suddenly it was Jasons last week of college. Yet he hadn't had the threatened letter home from Mr Rodes, he didn't care why, he was just glad it hadn't come.

He had done most of his exams and now only had Maths to look forward to.

He was dreading it but he put it out of his mind and focused on the sun shining down on him, where he sat beside Alfie on a park bench.

Ben came up to Jason and nuzzled his hand, Jason patted his head and sratched him behind his floppy ears. The dog wagged his tail in response.

"Don't you think it's strange how dogs enjoy being stroked?" Alfie said, furrowing his eyebrows at his own dog.

"I guess" Jason said with a slight laugh.

"I mean how would you like it if I just started stroking you?" Alfie said and then a cheeky smile crawled onto his face.

Before Jason could stop him, he was patting and ruffling his hair as if he were a dog. As a result, his hair splayed everywhere, getting in his face so he coild hardly see.

"Don't you dare!" Jason cried, too late and he reached out for Alfie, tickling his ribs.

Alfie giggled and squirmed out of his grasp, jumping to his feet and running away but Jason wasn't letting him off that easy.

He sweeped his hair out of his face, to little effect and sped after Alfie.

They ran around the park, weaving in and out of the playground, running round wooden stumps and under the swings.

Luckily the park was mostly empty, so there was no one to judge their childish behaviour aside from two old ladies knitting and staring blankly at the needles.

Jason leaped over a stump and finally caught Alfie, spinning him round so they were face to face, and terribly close.

"Never do...that...again" Jason said in a jokey voice. He and Alfie were breathing heavily, stupid grins on both their faces.

"I think it looks better like that, you look tougher" Alfie said, giving Jason's hair another ruffle.

Jason reached up to Alfie's face and straightened his wonky glasses. His hand lingered there for a moment and they just looked at each other.

Jason finally let his hand drop but he did not move and neither did Alfie.

He wasn't thinking, couldn't conjur a single thought.

He finally snapped out of it and let his hand drop from Alfie's arm, which he had still been griping.

Alfie let out a huge sigh and chuckling to himself he walked back to their bench to sit down.

Jason stood their for a moment feeling dazed and memorised before following Alfie.

"What's you're plan for after college?" Alfie asked.

"Going to University I guess, its what my parents wanted...you know I've never even met your family" Jason stated, the thought suddenly dawning on him.

"My parents are away on business, they are coming back at the end of this week and my brother works abroad" Alfie said calmly, his head slung back as he basked in the sun.

"You have a brother!" Jason exclaimed in astonishment.

"Yes, Triston. I havent seen him in so long, he rarely visits" Alfie said with a sad sigh.

Jason flopped his arm across Alfie's shoulders and sighed contentedly.

"Well, you've got me!" He said with a wide grin, baring his teeth.

"I sure do!" Alfie chuckled "I sure do". Alfie leaned against Jason and they sat there.

In that moment Jason wasn't worried about Mason or Greg, or even exams for that matter.

In that moment it was just him and Alfie. That was the way Jason had grown to like things.
