I woke up in a hospital bed, 'LIARS' still carved in my left arm.

Of course, I wasn't dead. Why would I?

But I woke up in the room with no one in it. Surely, my mother and brother would stay with me after such a tragedy.

So without thinking, I unplugged myself from the wires and walked out into the halls. "Hello?" I spoke.

The halls however, weren't empty.

They were filled with people with widespread smiles. "What are you so happy about?" I asked, but I was ignored.

Was this heaven? Was this what it was like? Was it a dream? A nightmare? Or was I in...

Suddenly, doctors appeared from the hall, their usual serious expressions had disappeared and turned to upside down frowns. Heavy smiles and grins possessing them all.

"Ms Hyland! What a pleasure I get to meet my patient on such a great day!" A doctor I didn't recognize shook my hand. "Welcome back." He grinned. The doctors passed, leaving me and this doctor alone in the hall.

"How long was I gone? Two, three days?" I asked. This gave me a well-deserved laugh from the doctor.

"I'm Dr Ben, sorry for not introducing myself. But I couldn't help myself from laughing! You've been out for five months straight. No sign of waking, but I'm definitely thankful..." He said.

"What?" I was still collecting the information he just informed me on. "Oh, come on, you should call your family for the holiday." Dr Ben gave me a toothy grin. "Holiday?" I asked.

"Yes, the holiday. I believe you should go home for Thanksgiving, if you celebrate. But you have to return for tests next week." He said, handing me my cell phone.

It was a little dusty for five months.

"Hello?" Mom answered her cell. "Listen, of your that bastard pranking me from that fu-" Mom started, and I laughed. She hadn't changed much.

"It's me, Mom. Montana." I said, and I felt the smile through the phone. "HOLY CRAP! You're really my Mo? I'll be right there." And with that, she hung up the phone, as promised.

Not too much later, a white Lexus pulled up in front of the hospital ER, and a brunette lady was pulling out of the car. She was wearing white lace top and a pink pencil skirt. When I got a look at her smile and light brown eyes, I knew exactly who it was.

"Mom!" I shouted.

But suddenly, she stopped in her tracks, her smile fading. I was smiling, but it turned to confusion when she dropped to her knees, crying.

"My Montana." She cried over and over, and I suddenly sighed in relief. "I'm right here." I hugged her, a reunion happening in the hospital hall.

"Don't you ever scare me like that again." She sternly stared me down as we drove in her new car. "What happened to that little blue Bug?" I asked, the car my dad bought me for my 15th birthday didn't seem to be the thing my family was driving in anymore.

"Too much bad memories." She said. I realized that we weren't driving in the same direction home, and got confused. "Where are we going?" I asked. "Home." She smiled, but I eyebrowed her.

"Are you sure, cause I'm pretty sure 'home' was two miles ago." I said, getting suspicious. "Oh," Mom laughed, "The three of us moved." She stated.

"What? Why? I have so much childhood memories in that house!" I shouted. "Well, that's one reason." She said. "What about Kyle? He couldn't agree with this!" This was an outrage.

"Jack convinced me to move in with-" She began, but I stopped her there. "-Jack? Who's Jack? Mom, what's happening?" I asked in a rush. I felt my face flush and my pulse rising.

Without another word, she started to smile and showed me her left hand.

Decorated with an expensive ring.

"Wedding's in May! I'm so excited, you're gonna be the Maid of Honor!" She squealed, but it took me a moment to get my heart back.

It had only been five months and my mother was already over my father.

What other change had happened in all the time I was gone?
