We drive in silence, which I don't mind. Soon enough we pull up into the driveway of the orphanage, I open the car door and get out, pulling my suitcase with me. May jumps out from the back seat and walks up to the front door beside me. Marie slams the car door and pushes past, she knocks heavily on the door multiple times.
The woman who owns the orphanage is called miss Elle. She's 43 and it was her dream to take care of children without homes, so she made miss Elle's home for children. She never wanted to fall in love with a man and get married, she always wanted to look after us. She takes great care of us and wants the best home for us all. In the building there's only thirty rooms, only twenty children who were the first to come, got their own rooms and the room would never be changed, not until they moved out.
Miss Elle had been saving up for this orphanage since she was nineteen, she finally got her dream. She gets all the kids and teens birthday and Christmas presents, she takes all of us out for Halloween, sorts out Easter egg hunts, she's amazing. Always trying to keep us happy.
The rooms are all sound proof so you can have music up as loud as you want, she lets the kids sleep in each other's rooms and if anyone is sad she will cheer them up. When I first came to Elle, I was one of her first kids. She helped me paint my room, let me put up posters, she is really nice.
All the kids are nice to each other, we help each other out in tough situations and a few times we all had a sleepover and stayed up all night laughing.
The door opens and miss Elle stands there, a smile on her face. I can hear the little kids laughing and the older kids trying to calm them down, they must've been playing a game.
"Ivory! How are you darling?" Miss Elle pulls me in for a hug, I smile and hug her back. "I'm okay, how are you?" I ask. Marie lets out a dramatic sigh. "I'm great! We were just playing 'do not laugh!'" Miss Elle turns to Marie. "Hello, how are you?" She asks politely. Marie just stares for a few seconds and then speaks, "we're not keeping her any longer, she's a waste of space." She turns and walks to her car. "Okay, well she is welcomed here, unlike you." Miss Elle smiles at Marie. Marie gets in her car, slamming the door and drives back up the road. I giggle and we turn around, entering the building.
"Hey Ivory!" "Ivory!" "Hi!" "You're back!" The kids and teenagers that knew me before I went to the bowens yell out to me, I smile and walk towards everyone. "Hello, it's me." A few of the little kids run up to me and hug me, I hug them back. "What happened? Why are you back?" One of my friends, Emily, laughs and gives me a hug as well. "Lots happened, they weren't very nice." I say, "well, atleast you're back, I missed you." Emily hugs me again. "The return of Ivory!" Emily exclaims. "'The return of Ivory?" I say, giggling. "Ivory, you can put your stuff away." Miss Elle says. I nod and walk up the stairs.
To get to my room you have to walk up two flights of stairs, I like my room being up the top. I have a great view. A few other kids that hadn't been downstairs said hello and we exchanged hugs.
I get to my room, Emily rambling behind me. I open the door and smile at the sight. My bed is next to the window, the sheets are cleaned and my bed is made. Candles sit on my dresser, I have always loved candles. My walls are white, like everyone else's. Miss Elle didn't want to waste money on different coloured paints so most of us just got white walls. I walk I and turn to face my door. On the wall, next to my door, is covered in Taylor posters. I have shelves on the wall, between the posters. Resting on the shelves is my CD player and Taylor bracelets and other little Taylor merch things. On the other side of my room, I have my wardrobe. It isn't big because there wouldn't be enough money to buy us all expensive furniture, but I like it. Mirrors are on the doors of the wardrobe, I have a few dresses and jackets in there. The floor is wood, we don't have rugs though. Next to my bed I have my bed side table, I have a small lamp on it. I put my suitcase, woven bag and may on my bed and look in the drawers. I have a box of matches, so I can light my candles, a few other books miss Elle had gotten me, a few hair ties and little balls with bells inside them for May. I get out the toys and throw them on the floor, May leaps of the bed and kicks it around.
