We were shooting a punishment today. Murr's punishment. Though, he didn't know yet. He thought we were only shooting a challenge, but actually he was falling out of a plane today. Skydiving. One of his worst fears and the guys and I decided it was time for this punishment. This is going to be funny.
As soon as the guys said, "weelllll", Murr knew something was up. He started yelling "no no NO" over and over thinking that was going to change our minds. I had to admit--I didn't like seeing him this upset, but a punishment is a punishment. He has to do it.
We were all huddled in a room as the skydiving guys were getting Murr's suit all ready. He was crying; there were tears in his eyes. Murray was in the middle of texting his family members ("just in case" he says) when Q starting feeling bad.
"I feel bad. Maybe we shouldn't make Murr do this. We can do another punishment for him. This might be too mean." Q obviously felt conflicted.
"Guys, no way. A punishment is a punishment. He can't say no. We all agreed years ago." Sal was firm.
It was quiet for a minute. Then Joe asked, "Murray, would you feel better if Alexa went with you?"
Whoa, hold on. I know that Murr and I are best friends, and this might make him feel better, but is Joe insane? I never agreed to skydive out of a plane.
Murr was already replying, "Actually, yeah it would. I mean I would rather not do it at all, but it would make it easier if Alexa went with me."
I was about to speak up, when Joe beat me to it. "Great it's settled. Alexa, you go with Murr. Maybe you can make Ferret calm down a little bit."
"Hey back it up for a second. I never agreed to this. Joe, you didn't even ask me!" I wasn't sure if I could do it.
Q said to me, "Come on, look at Murr. He's freaking out and only you can make him feel better. You got to do this. Do it for him."
I looked at Murr. Seeing his expression on his face, I knew I couldn't say no. "Okay, okay fine. I'll skydive. But James? I'm only doing this for you." I only called him James when I was serious.
Murr looked grateful and a little relieved. Joe and Q looked satisfied.
The only one who hasn't been saying anything was Sal.
A little later, Murr and I were getting ready to go when I heard Sal asking the instructors a bunch of questions. "Are the parachutes working? What if they get caught? How many years have you been skydiving? Do you know what you're doing?"
Q joked, "Wow Sal, I didn't know you were this worried for Murray."
Sal gave Q a pointed look and mumbled, "It's not Murray I'm worried for."
~~~
Murr and I were on the plane about to jump out. The other guys decided to stay on the ground and wait for us. I was nervous, but Murr was obviously more freaked out. I grabbed his hand and told him that I wouldn't let go the whole time. He looked grateful. Murr was my best friend. I didn't like seeing him this upset. So even though I was scared to skydive, I had to do this because my friend needed me.
The instructors were counting down. 3...2...1...
And we were out. Murr started screaming right away. It was actually kind of funny. His voice went all high pitched and his mouth was wide open. I squeezed Murr's hand and looked around. Wow. This is gorgeous, I thought to myself. Breathtaking. Murr kept asking the instructors if the parachutes were up and if we were going to fall, but I was only half listening. I was in awe. The view was outstanding.
