"Ready?" Rick asked Kate from her living room. Today they were going to the Hamptons. They've been seeing each other for a week now, and no one knew. It would risk Kate's career. Rick agreed, and he was happy.
"I'm ready." Kate said walking out of the bedroom in sweat pants and Rick's shirt. Her hair was in a messy bun, and she didn't have any make-up on.
"You look beautiful." Rick walked to her.
"I look like I'm on drugs on a Sunday." He wrapped his arms around her waist and kissed her cheek. She had her arms around his neck and smiled.
"But you look adorable." Rick said and took Kate's suitcase. "C'mon. Let's go." He said. Kate took his hand and they walked to Rick's car.

On their way, Kate fell asleep in the car. Rick had let her, it was a part of recovery. He turned the music down a little and kept on driving. Sometimes he'd check up on her and he would smile.

When they arrived Kate was already up. Rick opened his door and ran around the car to open Kate's door. She had her mouth wide open, of shock. Rick held a hand for Kate and she toom it to get out of the car.
"Castle, you rich or somethin'?"
"Not James Patterson rich but I do okay."
Kate chuckled and looked at him.
"It's perfect." Kate said and let their lips touch again. Kate had already admitted to Rick that she wasn't really ready to be in a serious relationship, that she wanted to take it slow. No hugging and kissing the whole time. Rick understood, and he obeyed.
"Let's get inside." Rick said when they parted and grabbed the suitcases from the back and took the keys from his pocket. By his surprise, Kate took his hand again and they walked to the front door.

After their little tour, Kate laid down on the couch. She was tired again.
"You can sleep if you want."
"No, that will ruin our time here. I don't want that."
"We've got a lot of days. You can sleep." Rick said and took a blanket from the closet and laid it around Kate. "I'll wake you when lunch is ready." He kissed her head and walked out.
"Rick wait." He turned to her and knelt down beside her head. "Lay with me."
"You sure?"
"Yes."
"Why don't we go to the bedroom. Not to do anything, just sleep that's all. Then we have more space."
"Okay." Before Kate could stand up Rick had already picked her up bridal style. She let out a little scream and laughed. "You know I can walk?"
"Yes but I won't let you." Rick walked upstairs and put her in bed. He laid next to her. Kate turned her back to Rick and laid closer so that there was no space between them. Rick put his arm around her waist and she fell asleep in his embrace. His warm, sweet embrace.

The feeling of not breathing woke Kate up. She was coughing, and trying to breath. She couldn't.
"Kate?" Rick walked inside. He walked away to get lunch ready. He looked at her and when he realised what was going on his heart raced. "KATE?!?"
"Can't.....bre....ath...." Kate said and she was still trying to breath. Without even thinking Rick dialed 911. When he did he walked to Kate. He tried to figure out if this wasn't a panick attack but it clearly wasn't.
Kate saw clolouring red and she saw spots. Spots in her eyes. And that was all she could remember.

There she was back again, in the place she never wanted to be again. The hospital. Slowly Kate opened her eyes. It hurt. She looked around and found Rick in a chair with tears in his eyes.
"Rick." She whispered. Her voice was harsh, gone for most of it.
"Kate." Rick looked at her and dried his tears. "Stay calm."
"What happened?"
"Nothing please stay calm."
"There's a reason why I'm back here." Kate said and still her voice was hurting. "There's a reason why you're crying."
Rick gave up. He sighed, sat his chair closer to her bed, and held her hand.
"When I tell you, you're gonna have to promise me to stay calm and don't freak out." Kate just nodded and turned her head a bit more to look at him more. She bit her lip and looked him in his eyes, but he avoided contact.
"Remember when Doctor Stevens told you that you were pregnant?" Kate nodded again. "It looked like a baby, but it wasn't. On the MRI it looked like it but it wasn't. And blood results were wrong. Kate, it was a tumor. You have cancer." He saw the change in her face when he looked up and he started tearing again. She did too. "The tumor blocked something which caused to block your airway. They took most of it out, but they couldn't get all of it because otherwise they would damage a lot of tissue in your stomach. I am so sorry."
Kate was crying. She squeezed Rick's hand and he kissed her hand. His tears ran down his face. "I'm so sorry."
"Did you call my dad?"
"I did. He's coming over soon."
"No. I don't want him here."
"Kate."
"Rick. Can I have a moment alone please?"
Rick didn't want to, but he had to.
"Always." He stood up and kissed her forehead. "I'll be in the hallway."
Kate couldn't stop crying. She had cancer. On the bright side, if she wasn't shot she still wouldn't have known. Fuck.

I'm sorry if I offended anyone I swear I didn't mean to but something needed to happen. If you don't like the subject cancer, I understand I don't like it either. I understand if you don't want to read this book anymore because of the cancer stuff.
And I'm sorry if some things don't make sense, cause I don't understand medical shit.
Again, I'm sorry for the cancer part.
