"Hello, Miss Delilah," he says with a bright smile on his face. His teeth are so white it's crazy.
"Please stop with the 'Miss' stuff. I'm just Delilah. Anyway I heard we were having a struggle earlier," I say.
"What kind of struggle?" he asks looking confused. It's probably just a false face though.
"I heard that you wouldn't tell my helper here what your skills were. I need to know so I can know where I can use you," I say, and he instantly looks defensive.
"I already said I don't have any skills," the boy says warily.
"What's your name?" I ask.
"Warren. Now please leave me alone," he says.
"Warren, please just tell me," I ask kindly.
"I HAVE NO SKILLS!" he bellows, and I see little sparks at his fingertips.
"Wa-Warren, why'd sparks dance around your fingertips?" I ask warily.
"I d-don't kn-know," he cries breaking down. He collapses in the floor right there crying.
"Hey, buddy, it's okay. Do you know when it started?" I ask.
"R-right wh-when th-this wh-whole th-thing st-started," he stutters.
"Well do you know what causes it?" I ask.
"It's only when I get scared or really mad. It's like a defense," he says, his voice stronger now.
"Well, do you know if any other kids have powers?" I ask.
"I know Magic does. I'm pretty sure Red does too. The one I'm not sure about is Alex. He acts weird when you ask," Warren informs me.
"Can you take me to them? Maybe help them talk to me?" I ask with a hope that he will.
"Yeah. Magic and Red will if I did. We're best friends. We met in Kansas and have been friends since. If one trusts someone the others do too," he says.
"Cool. Thanks, man. Don't worry about getting picked on though because I won't let it happen," I say looking him in the eye.
"No prob. Yo, Magic, bro, Delilah here has a question for ya. Don't worry you can trust her. I did," Warren says. At that a purple haired, purple eyed boy that's about six foot one stands and walks over. He looks to be fourteen just like Warren Then a red haired, hazel eyed boy that's about five foot eight stands and follows. He looks to be the same age as the other two.
"Really, bruh? Can we trust anyone?" Magic asks.
"Dude she knows I control electricity. We can trust her," Warren says.
"Well, then I guess I can too. I control purple sparkles that kill. Before you ask: yes, this is my real hair and eye color," Magic says.
"I guess you get that a lot," I say with a smile.
"Yeah. Yo, Red, your turn," Magic says.
"I control fire. It's crazy," Red says.
"I've seen Warren's powers, but I was wondering. Can I see yours?" I ask gently.
"Yeah, but no one can see," Magic says.
"Two things. One, we'll be doing this out back. Two, no one's going to pick on you here. If they do you come get me, understood?" I ask.
"Yup," Red says. He seems like the kind of person that doesn't speak a lot. The others nod, and I turn and lead the way to the outside. When we get out back there's a few azoms and kizoms.
"Those are your targets. One at a time please," I say.
"Me first," Magic says. He makes a fist, closes his eyes, and when he opens his eyes they seem to be sparkling. He opens his fist, and purple sparkles dance around his palm. He blows on them, and they fly through the air. They stick into an azom, and it drops.
"Holy mother of God," I gasp.
"If they don't die by being stabbed they get poisoned," Magic says while wearing a proud smile.
"My turn," Red says. He make a fist and shuts his eyes. When he opens his eyes I can see they are brighter than what they used to be. He opens his fist, palm out toward the kizom, and relaxes. The fireball engulfs the kizom, and it lets out a scream of agony before dropping.
"Wanna try, bro?" Magic asks looking at Warren.
"I can try, but no promises," Warren says. He shuts his eyes, his fingertips begin twitching, his eyes fly open and the blue is now an intense indescribable color, with a roar he lets loose electricity and it strikes two azoms and three kizoms. They drop to the ground writhing in agony.
"Dang, bruh. I didn't know you could do that," Magic says while staring at him in shock.
"I didn't either," he says. Red just stares at him like he's a ghost.
"Red, you 'kay over there?" Magic asks.
"Yeah," Red replies.
"Doesn't speak much, does he?" I ask Warren.
"Nah," he says.
"Well back inside. Can someone find Alex, please? I need to talk to him," I ask.
"Alex is a hard bastard to track down," Magic says.
"That's very rude of you to say, especially when I'm right in front of you," a brown haired, yellow eyed boy that's six foot says. I think he is the same age as the other three. What's with all the six foot fourteen year olds?
"What the hell?" Magic yelps jumping backwards. Actually we all jumped backwards.
"I'm Alex. I have the amazing power of blending in with my surroundings," he says.
"Well, nice to meet you Alex. I'm Delilah," I say.
"I know who you are. I've seen ya 'round here," he says.
"Do me a favor and don't scare me again, please. Also, I love your power. It's like a chameleon. I mean you all have amazing and cool powers, but that is freaking weird," I say.
"I know it is. That's why I'm glad it's my power. No one can use it for evil. I only use it to get away from people, or to occasionally spy as I did today," he says smiling.
"No spying either, and don't you dare go in the girls' bathroom," I say jokingly. The four boys laugh, and it's such a sweet sound. I haven't heard that much laughter in a while.
"Wasn't planning on it. I'm not a sex crazed teen," he says earning more laughter, and this time I join them.
"Well guys this has been fun, but I'm going to go help out with the injured boy. You need anything, just find me," I say.
"I know I will. You're cool," Warren says.
"Thanks," I say walking off. I make sure to make a mental note to add their abilities to the list when I get to my office. That is when I get an office. I walk around a corner and am met by a medic.
"I'm so glad I found you! The guy's doing good. He should be back to good health in a couple months, but he got lucky this time. He wants to talk to you though," the skinny girl says.
