"Wake up campers!" Miss Catherine calls walking around the cabin. She shakes some of us, and I'm one of the victims. In my half asleep state I think she's the man who attacked me yesterday and lash out screaming. When I realize it's her I calm down, but only a little bit. Miss Catherine's nose is bleeding, and her lips is busted. I feel horrible.
"Oh my gosh! I'm sorry! I'm so sorry!" I gasp jumping down from my bunk to stand in front of her.
"What was that for? You little brat!" Miss Catherine yells, and that's when Max steps in and stands next to me on to my right.
"Um, Miss Catherine, if I may," he begins.
"I bet you were part of this idea!" she screams wheeling around to look at him.
"Actually no. Listen to me. This girl was in a bus wreck, and she was attacked by a man with a ripped, bloody face. If you were her I bet you would've had the same reaction. If you wouldn't then you aren't human," Max says standing up straight and looking her in the eye. Geez he's going to get in trouble for being so defiant.
"Well how the hell should I know? I've never been in those kinds of issues!" she basically spits in his face.
"Okay, my turn. Since you've decided to mess with my friends you're messing with me. Now you listen to me. You've called my friend, Delilah, a brat and my other friend, Max, you spit in his face. What he said is true. Plus a few other things happened that we shall not speak of, and you going and being a bitch after you scare the crap out of her is not okay," Zoe says getting up to stand to the left of me.
"Oh, another brat. Why don't you all do me a favor and go down to the office. They'll take care of your rebellious behavior," she hisses.
"They haven't been rebellious. They've been sticking up for their friends, and since they are my friends as well I'm stepping in. Now everything they've said is true, and you going and being a jerk isn't going to help," Brandon says stepping in. At this point the whole cabin is staring at us.
"Okay, you four, office, now," she growls thrusting a finger towards the door.
"I may not know these guys, but I'm with them," says a black haired, blue eyed boy that's around five foot six and looks to be fourteen as well.
"All of you, office," she says again.
"Looks like we're all going to the office then because we're all with them, right guys?" calls a brunette haired, green eyed girl that looks like she's fourteen and five foot three.
"Yeah," everyone says standing taller with a defiant air about them.
"You all can't go down," Miss Catherine says.
"Well as I said all of us or none of us," the brunette says.
"Ugh, fine whatever. You just better be ready for breakfast. We are not being late for that," Miss Catherine growls storming off to the bathroom.
"Thanks guys for standing up for me," I say looking at everyone.
"We were all on that bus, and we should all stick together. My name's Kasey by the way," the brunette, Kasey, says.
"I'm Brody," the black haired boy says.
"I'm Delilah. This is Zoe," I say pointing to Zoe, then pointing to Max I say, "and this is Max."
"I'm Brandon by the way," Brandon chimes in. We pass around names, and eventually every face has a name. We get ready with Miss Catherin giving us stares like she wants to kill us, and when the bell rings we all dash for the cafeteria. We line up on our line, and Miss Catherine goes and talks to the head ranger. She soon storms back over, and I'm pretty sure the head ranger took my side because Miss Catherin looks pissed. When our cabin is called first the twelve of us head in. Today's breakfast menu: two biscuits and two pieces of sausage with milk or orange juice. I grab milk because last time I had orange juice here I about threw up. We all sit together. Six on one side of the table, six on the other. The next cabin leaves a seat between us on both sides.
"Looks like we've already been marked as the feared cabin," I mumble to Max and Zoe, who sit on either side of me. They laugh, and I join them because who couldn't?
"Hey, when we do the poster our mascot should be the grim reaper," Zoe whispers to us making us laugh harder.
"Yeah, and we could be called 'The Feared Ones'," Max whispers to us making me almost choke because of laughter. It seems Max is in the same boat as me, and Zoe beats on both of our backs.
"I'm good, I'm good!" I exclaim holding my hands up after she slaps me for a fifth time.
"Same!" Max says smacking her hand away.
"Sorry, I was just helping," she says innocently which sends us into confusion and leaves Max in complete confused.
"Inside joke. Don't worry about it," I say.
"Like what we talked about last night," he says poking me playfully with his elbow.
"Shh, don't mention that," I say.
"Mention what?" Zoe asks.
"Nothing, nothing at all. Right Max?" I say looking at him.
"Yeah, it's nothing," he says smoothly.
"Okay then. Just stop acting weird. You two are really fidgety today," she says. That's when I realize I've squirmed in my seat so much that I'm now at the edge. I sigh and readjust myself. That's when I feel the breeze and shiver.
"Hey, anyone know what's up with the weather?" I ask my cabin. I just get people shaking their head or shrugging, and I nod understandingly.
"I'm glad I brought jeans and a jacket," Max says.
"I'm glad I brought jeans and a hoodie," I say.
"What she said," Zoe says. I stuff a biscuit in my mouth sending Max into a fit of laughter.
"It's just like the café all over again," he says laughing. I punch him playfully then join him in his laughter realizing what he said is true.
"It really is," I say before taking a smaller bite of my biscuit.
"Well, at least now you won't choke," he says. He takes a drink of milk as I glare at him. When he notices me glaring he about chokes on his milk because he almost starts laughing.
"You sound like an announcer sometimes," I say.
"I know I do. That's just how I work," Max says smirking. His bright blue eyes are shining with happiness. My blue eyes are filled with happiness as well, and I can't stop smiling. As I finish my breakfast I shiver again. I really hate this weird weather.
