Tomas P.O.V
My alarm sounded at precisely seven in the morning. Usually the night before the first day of school I'd be restless, but I honestly slept like a baby.
My mom and dad were already up, they get up at 6:30 every morning for work. My mom was Vice President of Trent Electronic Supply Co. and my dad owned two car dealerships in the city. Money was no problem for me, we lived in a gated community and had the biggest house, not meaning to brag.
I shuffled to the bathroom to take a shower and other stuff. I dressed in a navy blue polo, some khaki joggers and navy blue vans. There was no uniform policy at Brenton High, but I wasn't about to dress extra on the first day like everyone else.
Especially those kids who were transferring from Rosewood. From what I've heard and witnessed the kids that went to that school were poor. Last week I tagged along with the football team to the mall in Rosewood's district and it was pathetic really, I felt bad for them.
Making my way out of my house I was sure to grab a muffin from the kitchen and told my parents goodbye and grabbed the keys to my car. I pulled up to the gate and waited for the security guard to open it.
"Have a nice day!" He yelled.
I pulled up to school's parking lit and immediately noticed the difference. There were way more black students there now, way more. I went to park in my spot when I noticed that it was taken by a yellow Volkswagen beetle, probably one of those students from Rosewood.
"Yo Tommy!"
"Hey Tommy!"
"Tommy D., what's good man!"That was all that I heard as soon as I walked into the school. I immediately met up with the guys from the football team who were just standing around watching the new girls from Rosewood.
"Was that school only filled with black girls or?" Jeff asked as I approached them.
"Hey guys, what's going on?" I asked.
"What's up Tommy, we're just checking out the transfer students, well the girls. They're all black though." Jeff said shrugging.
"Wait, wait there's one!" Chimed Kyle.
We all looked in the direction that he was pointing to two girls walking down the hall. I knew he was pointing at the tall white girl but my eyes immediately fell to the short dark skin girl, wearing a black crew neck shirt, olive green skinny jeans and black vans. She had a lot of hair, it was curly and fell past her shoulders but it was also big. I don't know why but she looked so familiar to me but I was staring at her face and she looked at me before turning the corner.
"Have you guys seen Katie?" I asked clearing my throat.
As soon as I asked the question, a scream came from around the corner and we all followed it, hoping that there would be a fight on the first day. When we got around the corner Katie was standing there with coffee spilled all over her white shirt and the girl with the afro rummaging through her purse for napkins.
"Oh my gosh, I'm so sorry! I shoudlve watched where I was going! I'll buy you a new shirt, I swear!" The girl rambled trying to wipe the coffee off of Katie's shirt.
I knew Katie and I also knew that this point she was pissed. Everyone knew. She snatched the napkins out of the girl's hands and threw them back at her, I couldn't see the girl's face when she did it, but she was probably embarrassed. Katie walked into the girls face and put her finger in her face.
"Don't worry about buying me a new shirt, I wouldn't want you spending thus month's rent on it. Next time watch where you're going or I'm going to rip your tracks out of your head. Understand?" She said.
