Tomas Pov
( his name is pronounced TOE-MÁS not Thomas)It was finally the end of the school day and today was one of those rare occasions where I didn't have football practice and Katie didn't have cheer leading practice, so we planned to go on a date. Nothing special, we were probably going to go to Olive Garden or something.
I had to meet her at her last period so that we could walk out of the building together and make people jealous, her words not mine. It always took her a while to leave her last class, I knew that I would be waiting at least ten minutes for her, so I took a seat on the bench in the hall. When I pulled out my phone, I heard Delilah and her friend coming around the corner laughing about something but it stopped as soon as she got in front of the bench.
Delilah shot me a look and kept on going about her business, I guess she was still upset about the shirt incident a few days ago. She's been giving me nasty looks since the day after, I guess it actually bothered her more than she let on when she came back with the hoodie.
Sporadic vibrations quickly snapped my attention down to the phone in my hand. Staring at the caller id, I answered the phone.
"Hello?"
"Tomas, I need you to pick up my dress from the cleaners on your way home." My mom instructed.
"Why don't you get Linda to do it? That's why we have her, you know to clean and do stuff like that." I replied.
"Linda is not a maid, she is my assistant. We do not have a maid. Now do as I say and make sure you're home in time for dinner tonight, OK?"
"No can do mama, I have a date. Won't be home until later. Probably ten."
"You don't tell me what you're going to do or when you'll be home. Now you need to be home by five and ready by six. I will see you then." And with that she hung up the phone.
That's my mom for you, always bossing me around. But I wasn't going to disrespect her, I knew what she was capable of, just because she wore professional clothing didn't mean anything to her, she'll still get violent. As soon as I stuffed my phone back in my pocket Katie comes strolling out of her class.
"You ready to go?" She smiled.
She's not going to like this, at all. She hates when plans get cancelled and always overanalyzes the reason why. So when I dropped my head and stuffed my hands in my pocket, she got worried.
"What's wrong Tommy Baby?" She said closing the space in between us, wrapping her arms around my waist.
I rubbed my hands through my hair and sighed.
"I have to take a rain check on the date."
I felt her roll her eyes and I heard her grunt. She dropped her hands to her side and backed away.
"Why?" She asked sounding annoyed.
"My mom wants me to go to this dinner, can't say no." I explained.
"Did you tell her that we had plans?"
"Yep." I said popping the 'p'
"And she's still trying to make you go?"
I simply nodded as I started walking down the hall with Katie complaining behind me.
"I knew your mom didn't like me!" She proclaimed.
I stopped in front of the exit doors and spun around to face her, cupping her face in my hands.
"My mom isn't like that. I'm pretty sure she loves you, its just a stupid dinner. I promise." I tried reassuring her.
