"You know if we were to drop this flag, we'd have to burn it." Stated Tomas as we folded the state & nation's flags.

We were hall monitors and we were the two who were picked to raise and lower the flag. I swear, I'd rather have been  with  Andy Walls, the quiet hall monitor, no one knows how he became hall monitor because he just stood there while the fourth graders ran up and down the halls, but still he didn't talk non stop.

I got stuck with Tomas Delgado, it's like someone flipped up his on switch and somehow broke it while trying to cut him back off, everyday, 6:45 in the morning  and 2:05 in the afternoon, he started talking and didn't stop. He literally had something new to talk about every single day.

"Delilah."

"What Tomas?" I responded as I placed the flag back into its case.

"Did you hear what I just said?"

"Yeah, yeah. Flag. Ground. Fire. Remember we can't let the flags up tomorrow because its gonna rain, so we'll have to be on post."

"Who do you have post with?" He asked opening the door to the front office.

" Charlie. The girl not the boy. Who do you have it with?"

"Leah, I don't like her very much. You know I heard she kissed James under the slide during p.e one day?"

"Yeah, well so what?" I said placing the flags into there drawers and grabbing my backpack.

"So, that's gross. And now she tries to kiss other boys. What if she tries to kiss me. I don't wanna kiss her! I don't wanna kiss anyone!"

"Dude, calm down. She's not gonna kiss you. Plus, she can't kiss you because you guys are on the fifth grade hallway and all the teachers stand there to help. So shut up about it."

"Okay. Well where are you going to be tomorrow? For post I mean." He asked fiddling with his backpack strap.

"Kindergarten hall. By the art class."

"Lucky. The kindergartners are scared of everyone, so they do what you say."

"Yeah, and there's this one kid, who brings me fruity snacks."

"Switch with me!"

"No way! I'm not giving up fruity snacks, I eat those during snack time."

"Whatever, my dad is here. He'll buy me ten boxes of fruity snacks and I'm not gonna share."

"So, he's still gotta buy them I get them for free." I replied sticking out my tongue as he sat in the backseat.

As his dad drove by he stuck tongue back out at me and I did the same until his dad's car pulled out of the parking lot.

"What are you doing?" My best friend Ivy asked as she walked up to me.

"Sticking my tongue out at Tomas. You know he's a big cry baby."

"Yeah. He is and he's chubby. So whenever we have snack time he has the most food. Like cakes and stuff." She stated as we started our walk home.

My mom made me walk home from school everyday because our neighborhood is right across the street. There was a school bus that ran there, by my mom said that it was really lazy for anyone to catch the bus when the school was a two minute walk away.

"He is? Chubby?" I asked as we waited to cross the street into out neighborhood.

"Yeah, how can you not notice it, you've done the flag thing with him everyday since the first week of school."
