Chapter 9: You Set Me Free

It was solo round. Great. I was excited, no doubt, but worried.

My eyes scanned the list of songs that we could sing, but seeing songs that I either haven't heard of, or can't sing very well.

I was about to give up when I noticed at the bottom of it said that contestants could perform their own song.

My life flashed back to about a year ago when I was sitting at my keyboard, with a notebook and pencil.I knew what I was going to do.

I was next, waiting on a girl getting sour faces and grunts from the judges.I felt bad for her.She wasn't even doing that bad, but the judges tend to over exaggerate.

When she finished, she received a small amount of applause, but I helpfully put in a cheer to start others.I also gave her a pat on the back as she handed me the microphone.

I waited for the staff to roll the piano on stage for me.

I told the judges that I wrote this song and told them what it was about.

"This song is about being set free from baggage, and from the weight you carry from hard times. So, I really hope you like it, it's called You Set Me Free."

I then sat at the piano and began to play my song.Shortly after I began singing.

"You find me here, alone.

I hear a voice that's so unknown.

It strikes courage up my backbone, strength in my heart, a life set apart.

I see that's what you are.

You come you come with open arms.

And you say, 'I love you for who you are'

When I was haunted and alone with this baggage on my back, dragging me down, you set me free yeah!

You set me free.

You set me free."

I thought that I did good, but was not expecting a standing ovation. I could barely hold in my emotions.

I mumbled a "Thank you" a couple of times before walking off of the stage and handing the mic to the next person, and running backstage to do a double fist in the air, and running around in a circle like an idiot.

I felt like I was ready.
