Chapter 20: Bring Me To Life

Shortly after my duet with Lazaro, I had to prepare for my next performance of Bring Me To Life.

I hopped into stage in a cute outfit with my hair basically the same as before.

I started at the piano:

"How can you see into my eyes, like open doors?

Leading you down into my core, where I've become so lost."

I grabbed the microphone and stepped away from the piano, into the middle of the stage.

"Without a sore, my spirit sleeping somewhere cold.

Until you find it there and lead it back, home.

I finished the song and looked out to the crowd to see my family and friends on their feet.

I then looked back towards the judges to get my critiques.

Nicki started:

"Hello Angie! So, first of all..." She tried to start, but the crowd was way too loud. I waved again, and looked back towards Nicki.

"How are you, honey?"

"I'm doing really good."

"I feel like we haven't spoken in a long time, what's going on?"

"Not much, I mean, it's been a week..."

"I love that you're in all black. I think that's a very nice look for you, I love that you're covering the legs tonight, you look a little bit toned down. I think that this was a perfect choice for you. That you were able to start at the piano, but still stay true to the genre that we're doing tonight. I think it was a perfect choice, given the circumstances. Because obviously everything was working, the fan was working, blowing your hair right, your voice really did sound amazing. I hope next week, we get to hear what you did when you did Colton Dixon and your original music, because that's where you shine and that's where I melt. But this one, congrats."

I was happy that Nicki liked it, because she's not afraid to come out and say that you're horrible. So most likely the rest of the panel enjoyed it too. It was Randy's turn though:

"Yo, so you know what I'm happy about? I'm happy that America sees you this week, because I know in your heart you would love to make a record like Evenesance, Moudmath, or Paramore, somewhere in that zone, I know that's where your heart is, right?"

"Yeah, I love the edgy side of things."

"Yeah, and I love that for you, because I think that's where your voice really lives, because you can be as theatrical, as dramatic as you want, you can play the piano, whatever, I think it was a great choice for you and you did an amazing job on it, the note at the end was stellar, I loved you at the piano at those tender moments, I really loved the tender moments, but great dynamics you had going with this song, it's a great song. I must say, it's hard to choose, because it's rock week, but, Mariah, you sang a lot of different songs, what do you think because all these kids had to sing rock, and it's not really their wheelhouse, so what do you think about that?"

Mariah answered his question:

"I think, as you know, it comes down to the song choice, where you think you can take, whether it's a rock song, a blues song, whatever it is, and make it Angie, or whoever is singing it, I've done a couple rock songs and tried to make it my own thing, and it's difficult because there's a really fine line that you walk, I totally agree with what Randy was saying about the edginess, because for me, this takes away from what anybody was saying about the dramatic moments, or the theatrical moments, this is you, I love that you started at the piano, at first I was like 'She's getting up from the piano, why, come one, piano!' And then I really appreciated this song and you, I thought it was a perfect match."

"Thanks!"

Then it was Keith's turn:

"Angie, I love your voice, I've loved it right from the beginning, I love it when you play the piano and sing, I love that moment, when you get up, you're singing and the fans happening, and you're trying to keep your shirt down and everything. Part of me also wants to make sure that when you choose these songs, you feel it, for me, the rock thing is not just about singing really well, or looking good or any of those things. It's all feel. If you feel yourself in that song, and lose yourself in that song, and not be so conscious about the way you look, I think you'll fall into the song way more, and you've got the ability to do that."

Whoo! Ok, that was good. Just feel it more, Angie, just feel it more...
