Chapter 13: I Surrender

Everyone was tired from this morning as we got ready to perform.We were definitely prepared though.

Tonight I was taking on "I Surrender."I remembered Kelly Clarkson sing it flawlessly and am hoping to sing it as well as she did.

Tonight I was dressed in a black leather dress with gold chains down the sides.I wore black leather heels with it.I loved how I looked.

Everyone looked nervous, as did I, but I still felt very confident at the same time.

As I waited backstage, I noticed the smallest detail.There was a white mark on my heels that I quickly rubbed away with my finger.

During commercial break, I got on stage waiting for my que.I started the song,

"There's so much life, that I have yet to live.

And this fire's burning still.

When I watch you look at me, I think that I could find the will.

'Cause I surrender everything, to feel the chance to love again.

I felt really good and smiled as I sang the last note.Now it's time for critiques.

Keith was first:

"As do I surrender,Angie.You're such an artist.And what I love is that you can take a song from any era, and make it feel very now, and very current.And the highest registers of your voice, are so pleasing to the ear, and so gorgeous, so I think you knocked it out of the park tonight."

I made a strange sound mixed with a squeal and a 'Thank you!" Before Nicki started,

"You really, really look like a billion dollars today.I am obsessed with that dress, who made that dress?"

I was going to say 'I don't know' but sort of stopped myself.

"Oh, okay." She continued with a smile, making me laugh."I think they styled you so well today.Your legs are giving me everything I needed in life today." I laughed and almost fell down at the last comment, tempted to cover them up.She continiued,

"This is gonna sound really random, but I love the way you walk in heels."

"Thanks!" I say, totally understand what she's telling me.

"It's weird, it's like you're not stumbly in them.You're just perfection to me.Like on every level, you personify perfection.The voice, has no flaws, it's flawless, I have nothing to critique because it is a thousand-billion percent on point, you're a superstar!I'm not gonna lie, I hate when you part ways with your piano, because I like to see you do your cute thing, but Angie, congratulations, you're amazing."

"Thank you so much." I say before Randy starts,

"Yo Angie!So I was thinking a minute ago when someone was singing,'Where is the competition?' America the competition starts now!" He said, pointing at me."Yo!This girl is in it to win it!That's how you do it!You come out here, you take whatever song, and I think you could sing anything.That was amazing, you came on the stage, your voice was crystal clear, in tune.Wow.This is a competition now!Mariah, what did you think of this girl?"

"What did I think?" She responded."Stellar." Was all she had to say to make me so excited for the next round in the competition.
