(Riley's POV)
I get back home, a smile still etched on my face. I knock on the door to Sammie's room. "Sam, it's time to get up," I call. I walk into Bryce's room. "Hey, Bryce it's time to get up," I tell him, shaking the four-year-old boy slightly. His eyes open slowly and he sits up with a yawn. "Good morning, babe," I say.
"Good morning, sissy," he yawns. I help him out of bed.
"Go on downstairs, I'll be down in a minute." He nods and runs out of his room and down the stairs. "Sammie! Come on!"
The fourteen-year-old girl finally comes out of her room. "G'morning, sunshine," I laugh. I walk down the stairs behind her.
"You seem excited," Sam observes, taking a bite of cereal. She tucks a strand of her dark hair behind her ear. "Who'd you meet?" she asks.
I tell her about Hunter. "He sounds charming," she laughs.
"He is," I say. "Go get ready." I take her empty bowl and put it in the dishwasher. "You too, Bryce," I tell him. He hops down from the chair he was sitting in and runs up the stairs. I lean against the counter and run my hands through my hair. Why didn't I get his number?, I think to myself, almost angrily. I should've gotten his number.
Later, after Sam and Bryce are at school, I shower and get ready for work. I head to the little café. Hannah greets me when I get there. "Hey, Rye," she says.
"Hey," I say to my best friend, putting an apron on. I situate my name tag onto it and stand next to her behind the counter.
"How've you been?" she asks me,
handing someone their coffee.
I shrug. "Good, I guess. My mom isn't doing any better, though."
Hannah sighs. "I'm sorry," she says, squeezing my arm.
I nod and mumble, "Me too." I hear the bell ring and I look up. To my surprise, Hunter walks through the door.
"Well hello again, Riley Ann," he says with a smile. He walks to the counter, that crooked smile still on his face. I smile back at him.
(Hunter's POV)
I walk through the door and I see her. I didn't know she worked here, but I'm happy she does. "Well hello again, Riley Ann," I chuckle.
"Hey there, Hunter," she greets me with that beautiful smile. Her blonde hair is swept up into a ponytail; her blue/gray eyes sparkling. "What do you want?" she asks me.
"You," I whisper, staring into her eyes. She can't stop the blush that creeps into her cheeks, turning them a light pink. God, she's beautiful. "But I don't think I can get that, so I'll just have a coffee to go."
She smiles and pours me a cup of coffee. "Thank you, Riley Ann," I say, paying her. She smiles and nods at me. "I'll see you around, I hope, and if I don't, I know where you work," I say to her, laughing.
"Yeah," she laughs. "Bye, Hunter."
"Goodbye, Riley Ann." I walk out of the café still thinking about her. I can't get her out of my mind.
