Hunter's POV
*December*
I climb the stairs up to Riley's room. I didn't even bother knocking, I know that she's home alone. Thank God that she is, too. I hardly ever see her because she's scared to come over because she's terrified of her dad and I can't come over, for obvious reasons.
As I get to her door, I hear her singing along to her music. I've heard her sing before, but she knew I was listening. Right now, she thinks she's alone. I lean against the wall outside of Riley's bedroom and just listen to her.
She has a very beautiful voice. I realized that before, of course, but there's something about the way she sounds right now. She sounds confident and like she's not really trying, which makes it sound so beautiful.
I peak in through the cracked door to see her dancing around. Riley flips her dark blonde hair around as she sings the song. I can barely hear the actual song over her voice.
"Long live all the mountains we moved
I had the time of my life fighting dragons with you
I was screaming long live that look on your face
And bring on all the pretenders
One day, we will be remembered..."I flashback to when I first met her. That's the song she was singing when she ran into me. She was muttering it under her breath as she ran. What would've happened if I would've moved instead of letting her run into me? I guess later that day, I went to where she works, but even then...
It's such a crazy thing that we ran into each other. It could've been anyone else. But it was Riley. What if it would've been someone else? Would I be in love with her right now rather than Riley? I shake the thought from my mind. It's too hard to think about. Because watching the love of my life dance and sing, not knowing that I'm watching her, I can't imagine life without her.
I accidentally stumble forward into the door, giving away that I've been watching her. Riley hears the door and screams, but then turns to see that it's only me. A blush creeps to her cheeks, and I have to smile.
"You can keep going. I'll just sit right here." I sit on her bed, a small smile still on my mouth.
"You could've knocked. Or told me that you were coming over," Riley mutters. She's still blushing.
"You're really cute, Riley Ann. You know that, right?"
She rolls her eyes. "I missed you." She laughs, kissing my cheek.
"And I missed you, too. I guess," I say, muttering the last part.
"You're mean." Riley pushes me playfully.
"You wanna go, Short Stuff?" I ask, shoving her back. I smile when she scowls at me.
"Maybe I do," she pauses, trying to find something to call me. I laugh. She can't think of anything. "Skyscraper," she mumbles.
"What was that?" I raise an eyebrow at her. Riley shakes her head, laughing. "Did you call me a skyscraper?"
"No," she says. I go to grab her, but she jumps up.
"Oh, it's on, Riley Ann." I laugh.
She runs out of her room, and I follow her. Riley goes down the stairs so fast that she almost stumbles and falls, but she catches herself. She runs down the hall and through the kitchen, right out her back door.
She didn't close it, so I follow her out. She shrieks when I get an arm around her waist. Her laugh is silent as she breaks away from my grasp.
"Hey, little girl!" I shout after her.
