(Hunter's POV)

I take her back in my arms, holding her tightly. "I'm so sorry," she whispers.

"Don't be," I say softly. I kiss her forehead; she's still burning up. I put the back of my hand to her forehead. "Are you hot?" I ask her.

She shakes her head. "No, I'm actually cold,"she says, cuddling closer to me.

"I'll be right back, babe," I say, standing up.

I walk down stairs, looking for a thermometer. When I find one, I go back upstairs. "Here," I say, handing her the thermometer.

"Hunter," she starts, laughing, "I'm fine."

"No you aren't," I say, putting my hand back to her forehead, and shaking my head. "Rye, you're burning up." She rolls her eyes, then sticks her tongue out at me before putting the thermometer in her mouth. I give a satisfied smile and sit by her.

(Riley's POV)

I finally give in and take the thermometer from Hunter, slipping it into my mouth. He flashes me a smile before plopping down next to me. Now that I think about it, I do feel kinda shitty. I rest my aching head on his shoulder. He takes the thermometer out of my mouth when it beeps.

"Aw, baby," he says, kissing my forehead, making my feel like a child. "Do you need anything?"

I shake my head. "I'm fine, Hunter," I laugh a little, causing my head to throb. I wince slightly, just enough for Hunter to notice.

"I'll be right back," he whispers, kissing the top of my head before disappearing out of the room.

God bless that boy.

I let out a sigh, laying back. Hunter comes back, a pill in one hand, a glass of water in the other. "Here." He hands them to me. I take them gratefully, swallowing the pill with a gulp of water. "Are you hungry?"

I shake my head. "I'm not, really," I mutter. Hunter gives me a look, then shakes it off, sitting next to me. I lace my fingers through his, resting my head on his chest, listening to the steady beat of his heart.

"Do you want me to stay with you? Or should I go?" he whispers. I curl up into his side, stifling a yawn. He wraps his arms around me, taking my signal. "I'll stay then."

I wake later in the day, sunlight pouring into the room. Hunter is still with me, awake. He smiles down at me. "Morning, sleepyhead." He laughs softly.

"What time is it?" I ask, looking up at him, squinting at the light coming in from the window.

"About two," he says. "You feel any better?" I shrug. "Is that a good shrug, or a bad one?" I shrug again, causing a chuckle to escape his lips, making me giggle.

He leans down, giving me a peck on the lips. "You're gonna get sick." I giggle when he leans in again.

"I'll survive." He laughs. "You should eat something," he says, more serious now, "it'll help." I nod, letting him help me up.

He makes me let him make me something to eat. I laugh at him as he spreads peanut butter onto a slice of bread. "You're cute." I giggle.

"No," he laughs, handing me the sandwich, "you are." Hunter kisses the tip of my nose.

"Thank you," I say, "for the sandwich, I mean." He shakes his head, sitting next to me.

*The Next Day*

(Hunter's POV)

I find myself at the hospital after Riley tells me I don't have to stay with her today. She feels a little better, and said that "she can take care of herself." But she said it sarcastically, so I just laughed at her and left.

I sign in and walk down the hall to the room I've been to many times with Riley. "Hello, Miss Parker," I say with a smile.

"Hi, Hunter," she says. "Is Riley Ann here?"

I shake my head. "She isn't feeling well."

She purses her lips, then her face softens. "She went through a rough patch, Hunter," she says softly. I nod, already knowing. "And after I'm gone," she says very slowly, "I don't want her to go through it again."

"I'm counting on you to make sure she doesn't go through it again. You have to make sure she eats; keep her healthy."

I nod, having already made this promise to myself. "I'm not going to last much longer, Hunter," she says, softly, "you have to keep her healthy; she's my little girl," she repeats.

"I will," I assure her.

"Good." She smiles. "I knew you were a keeper."
