Jen's POV
My head pounded and my vision was blurred as I opened my eyes. A womans head floated above my head. My vision swum as I tried to make out distinct facial features.
A light flashed in my eyes and the woman's hand swung back and forth holding something.
"Pupil.........good.....she seems.......anything else.........do?" I could only make out a few things she was saying as my hearing swung in and out.
"No, that'll be all. Thank you." A distantly familiar voice said.
My vision was clearing up and all I saw was a white ceiling. I tried moving my head but couldn't. I opened my mouth but couldn't talk.
"Oh honey, dont try to hard just yet. You'll get all that back in time. Right now you're drugged, because I can't have you making to much of a scene." Nina's head appeared above mine and she smiled. It wasn't her regular smile though, it was one I had never seen on her before. It was more like a smirk of pride.
"You're probably wondering what's going on?" She said with that smirk growing. "All will be explained to you my dearest. But now you need your rest." I felt a pressure in my right arm. The white ceiling began to fade again and everything went black.
*************
When I woke up again I was looking at a blue ceiling. I squinted my eyes and focused on focusing my vision.
When my vision finally focused I slowly sat up.
The surge of memories of what had just happened rushed back into my preoccupied mind. Nina. Aunt Nina kidnapped me.
I tried getting out of the bed but then I realized that my hand was cuffed to side of what looked like a hospital bed.
Ashton. Ashton was the only other person who knew about me being at the dock. I had Aunt Nina deliver the letter to him maybe he could use deductive reasoning to figure it out. I sighed relieved allowing myself one moment of hope. I laid down and closed my eyes before silent sobs made my body tremor and I slowly got into the fetal position.
Then the door opened and I shot up, which made my head hurt and my cuffed wrist broke open and started bleeding.
"Oh my dear, dear daughter. What have you done?" Nina asked with a smug grin on her face. "You look ridiculous. You're hair is a mess, you're makeup is all smeared, and you're wrist is bleeding. And you're supposed to be the girl who took me shopping who gave me weird looks because of the way I was dressed and the way I looked. Well sweetheart, who looks stupid now?"
I flinched, she was talking so coldly, nothing like the Nina I had gotten to know.
"I guess you're probably asking the question: why? Why would my aunt Nina who's actually my mom do this to me? I have quite a few answers to that question my lovely daughter. But first I have another thing to tell you. I'm not the only one. Remember the note your sister left for you at school? GNSM, guess what N stands for. Nina. However what do the other three letter stand for? In that letter your sister was exactly right. The people closest to you are your worst enemies and you played right into their hands. You just let us take advantage of you." She told me, "Come on out here guys. Show her how clueless she really is."
Three people walked in through the door with their hoods covering their faces so I couldn't see who they were. The first person uncovered their hood. It was Grant. I already knew he was in this somehow. He just smiled at me. That's all. And all I could do was silently cry. I probably looked pathetic so I wiped my eyes and stopped my crying.
The next person who stepped forward and lowered their hood was Sara. I didn't understand. How could one of my closest friends be so cruel to my family and I?
The next person stepped forward but didn't lower their hood. I just stared at the figure until I realized that the figure was crying silently. Nina rolled her eyes stepped back and pulled the figures hood down for them. What I saw was like a dagger getting thrown into my heart.
Ashton's POV
After reading the note that Nina accidentally gave me, again, I deducted that A and F stood for Ashley and Franklin, Jen's parents. I had to warn them before Nina hurt them. But I had no idea how to do it without Nina finding out.
I could try calling but that ran the risk of Nina being there and picking up the phone and created the same problem if I were to go over to their rental house. I could only try and see if I could get ahold of Ashley or Franklin.
I dialed their rental houses number and my heart felt like it was going to explode when the line picked up.
"Hello?" It was her dad, my heart rye slowed down a little but Nina could still be there.
"Mr. Habbay, is Nina there? This is Ashton. if she is just tell me I have the wrong number and hang up."
"She isn't here. What's wrong?"
I breathed out, at least she wasn't there, "Mr. Habbay she has Jen. Be careful, she's after you and Mrs. Habbay also. Except I don't think she really wants to harm Jen, but I know she wants your money. And the only way I can see her getting it is through you passing it down to Jen when you pass away."
"What?!"
"Mr. Habbay, Jen isn't there right?"
"No, she went to the dock."
"She isn't there either and I found a note from Nina. She threatened to kill Jen and my family and you guys if I called the police."
"Oh my god. I knew Nina was crazy but I didn't realize it was this bad. Nina was in a mental hospital when she was pregnant with Jen. That's why we adopted her. Plus Nina didn't want her and we wanted a baby so badly."
"Mr. Habbay you don't have to explain to me. It doesn't matter. Jen has always been your daughter and will always be your daughter. Be careful. She and whoever she's working with are after you."
"We'll be careful don't worry Ashton." Then I heard the door slam in the background. "Nina, have you see Jen a all? She was supposed to be at the dock but hasn't come back yet and when we checked if she was there she wasn't." I heard him say in the background. He must have put the phone down but not hung up so I could hear what was going on.
"Haven't seen her. Either way I need to talk to you guys." No no no. They're falling right into her trap.
"Sure, but first we should call the police. It worries me with all that's been going on that she isn't home yet."
"Franklin, I don't think that's necessary. Put the phone down."
"Nina I just have to find my daughter."
"Put. The. Phone. Down."
"What's going on Nina? Did you stop taking your medication again?" I heard Mrs. Habbay say in the background. She must have been listening the entire time.
"Ash, Franklin. I think you need to come with me." There was a sound that sounded like someone throwing something and then nothing. Then the phone was being moved around and Nina came on the line.
"Wrong move Ashton. Wrong. Move." And then the line went dead.
