2 Years Later
Sydney's POV
3 months after Vince caught Adam and I in bed together, he proposed to me. We got married 2 months later. Vince moved in with Bentley and I. His kids visited one weekend every month. I hadn't spoken to Adam since the day he left. I would type a text message to send to him, but I never got the courage to send it. He hadn't seen Bentley since that day either.
I woke up facing Vince. He was still sleeping, so I quietly rolled out of bed and walked to Bentley's room. He was sitting on the floor in front of his race car bed, playing with his train set. "Hey baby," I said as I walked over to him. "Hi mommy," He said before I picked him up. "Do you want some breakfast?" I asked him. "Yes, please!" He said.
I carried him downstairs and set him in the family room. I watched Bentley run over to the fireplace. "Mommy, who are they?" Bentley asked as he pointed at a picture of Adam and I with Emily. I took the picture off the mantle and showed it to him. "This was your sister Emily, but she passed away before you were born. The other man is one of mommy's friends," I said before I put the picture back on the mantle.
I felt a tear run down my cheek, but I quickly wiped it away before Bentley could see. "Can I have eggs, mommy? Bentley asked. "Of course," I said before I picked him up and carried him into the kitchen. I set him down on the counter and pulled a pan out from one of the cabinets. I set it on the stove and turned on the burner.
I pulled a carton of eggs out of the fridge and grabbed a bowl. I cracked 3 eggs into the bowl, threw the shells away, and grabbed a whisk to mix the eggs. I poured them onto the pan and after 5 minutes, I finished the scrambled eggs.
"Bentley, do you want toast?" I asked him. "No mommy," He said. I scraped his eggs onto a plate and grabbed a kid's fork from the kitchen drawer. I set his eggs at the table and carried him over. I set him in his booster and went to grab him a juice box. I set the juice box on the table and kissed his head. "Thank you mommy," He said. "Your welcome Bentley," I said.
After Bentley was finished eating, he ran into his toy room to play with more trains. I sat down on the couch and pulled out my phone. I was scrolling through Twitter, when I stopped at something that caught my eye. Adam had tweeted something.
Engaged to Anne. Couldn't be a happier man!
The tweet also had a picture of Anne's ring. It looked identical to the ring that Adam proposed to me with. I still had that ring. I kept it in my jewelry box along with the necklace he bought me for my 27th birthday. I still wore the bracelet with Emily and Adalyn on it all the time.
"Hey babe," I heard Vince say. I locked my phone and set it on the coffee table. "Hey baby," I said. Vince sat next to me and pulled me onto his lap. "I saw Twitter. Are you ok?" He asked. "Why wouldn't I be? I'm happily married. He deserves to be too," I said. I lied. I was upset that Adam was engaged. I did want him to be happy, but part of me wanted him to stay single.
"Mommy, can you take me to the park?" Bentley asked as he ran into the room. "Sure baby, go get dressed," I said. "Ok mommy," bentley said before he took off up the stairs. "I'm gonna take him to the park," I said before I gave Vince a quick kiss. I ran upstairs and went to my closet.
I picked out a white v-neck and a pair of jean short shorts. I slipped on my pink Nike running shoes and put my hair up into a messy bun. I slipped my phone into my back pocket as Bentley came running over to me in basketball shorts and a white t-shirt.
"Ready mommy!" Bentley said. I picked him up and carried him downstairs. "We're off to the park babe," I said. "Bye, love you," He said. "Love you too," I said before we left the house.
Once we got to the park, Bentley ran over to the swings. I was about to follow behind him, when I saw someone walking on the sidewalk towards me.
It was Adam.
