Charging Vince

3 Month Later

Sydney's POV

Emma has been staying with us ever since the incident. I divorced Vince a week after I found out he was cheating. Today was the day we were charging Vince with domestic violence.

I woke up facing Adam. He was smiling at me. "Hey beautiful," He said. "Hey handsome," I said. "I love waking up to you every morning," Adam said. "Me too," I said before I kissed him. "Adam?" I said. "Yeah baby?" He said. "I want to get custody of Emma," I said. "What?" He asked. "She hates her parents and we could make a good case. I love her Adam. I can't make her go back to them." I said. "If you are ready to take care of a teenager, I'm all for it," Adam said. "Do you know how much I love you?" I said. "You could show me," Adam said as he winked at me. "Later," I said before I kissed him and climbed out of bed.

I called my lawyer and for her to draw up papers for me getting custody of Emma. I woke Emma up and told her to get ready for court. I walked back into my room and saw Adam laying on the bed with Bentley in his arms. "C'mon boys, time to get ready," I said as I walked over to them and kissed their heads.

"But mommy why?" Bentley whined. "Yeah mommy why?" Adam whined. "Benny if you go and get ready I will buy you ice cream after," I said. Bentley jumped off the bed and ran to his room. Adam sat up and pulled me onto his lap. "What do I get?" Adam asked. "How about me?" I said. "Sounds amazing," Adam said before he kissed me.

I climbed off of Adam's lap and went to my closet. I put on a black tank top and a black pencil skirt with a white blazer. I slipped on a pair of white pumps and put my hair into a side braid. I put on some light makeup and walked out to Adam. He was wearing a grey suit and his hair was its usual sexy messiness.

Bentley came running into the room in his little suit to match Adam's. "Ready mommy!" He exclaimed. Emma walked in moments later in a red peplum dress with matching red heels and her hair was down. "Ready," She said. We walked downstairs and all climbed into the car. We drove off to the courthouse and arrived 10 minutes later.

We walked inside and Emma and I sat next to my lawyer. Vince and Julie were next to us with their lawyer.

"All rise for the honorable Judge Davisson," The baliff said. The judge hit his gavel and we all sat.

"So Mrs. Jackson..." "It's Miss Jackson, your honor," My lawyer said. "My apologies Miss Jackson," He said. "It's alright," I said. "So explain the situation please Miss Jackson," The judge said. I got up and sat on the stand. After I explained everything about my relationship with Vince, including all the cheating, I got off the stand. The jury left to go decide on their verdict and the judge asked me to explain why I want custody of Emma.

"I was her step-mom. After Vince hit her, she called me. Vince abused her 7 times and her mom never questioned it. How can I let her stay somewhere with people that don't care about her? I am responsible enough to take care of her," I said. "Well then Miss Jackson, I grant you full and sole custody of Emma Jackson," The judge said. Emma hugged me and smiled. "Thank you," She said.

20 minutes later, the jury came back into the room. "Has the jury reached a verdict?" The judge asked. "We have your honor," A jurer said. "On the count of domestic violence, how do you find the defendant?" He asked.

"We find the defendant....."
