I was making breakfast and I heard him walk into the kitchen. Oh no! What now? Was he going to hit me again? I wanted to run out through the backdoor but that would just make it worse, so I remained rooted to my spot, flipping the pancakes and then I felt him brush against me...wait what? Oh my god, he brushed against me! Oh right! Now I'm just being pathetic and so wanting... getting back to reality, I turned around to see him standing right behind me. I let out a cry without meaning to. He looked startled. I quickly moved away from the stove and faced him again. He opened his mouth to say something and then closed it without a word. And there it came, the glare. He glared at me. He gave my dress a sweeping looking and snorted. I looked down at myself. Well, dirty apron over a grey sweatshirt and blue pants, not my best look. He had a card in his hand. A card? Was it an 'I'm sorry I beat the shit out of you' card? Couldn't be. He was too arrogant for that. Wasn't' he? He threw the card right at my face and stalked out of the kitchen answering a call that came in his phone. I bent down to pick the card that had made its way to the floor. It looked like a wedding invitation... his friend's. Jacob Sanders weds Claire Wilson. Wow! Did he just ask me to go with him? Oh yeah! He didn't ask. He ordered.
Well I guess I would have to go then. I would try to look my best for him. He shouldn't get embarrassed in front of his friends of me. But dressing up was not my thing. I guess, that's why losers like me have a best friend. I took out my phone from my pocket to send a text to Lily.
Hey, help needed. I need to dress up to impress. Husband's friend's wedding. Asap. Where do we meet?
In case I hadn't mentioned it earlier, I already told Lily about all the beatings I get from him. She told me to go to the police or tell my parents but I told her that I want to give a shot at this life because he is all I ever wanted. And she respected my wishes and my decision. Although, it doesn't stop her from scolding my husband in seven different colors in our text conversations. I get a reply back saying that we could meet at McDonalds that's two blocks away from this house. Great! He wouldn't notice me being gone.
I quickly kept the breakfast on the table and rushed upstairs and to get dressed. When I came back downstairs I noticed that he was eating. He looked up at me and he cleared his throat. Uh oh!
"I need you to come to the wedding with me." I slowly walk towards him. He continues, "And where something nice, not something that makes you look like a cave woman"
"I'll try to look my best", I say. He snickers.
"I would understand, if you look the same. That this is your best. You look ugly and there's nothing you can do about it"
"Thanks."
Before he could get up and punch me in the face I run out of the house and out of the gate. As the security guard watches me in utter disbelief and confusion. I needed to get to McDonalds as fast as I could.
