Jay POV

I stumbled backstage after the performance. The lads and I congratulated each other, but I was feeling horrible. Nathan decided to take me back home as soon as possible.

"You look as pale as a sheet, Bird," Nathan said.

I blinked, trying to focus. "I don't know what's wrong. Am I sick?"

He felt my forehead. "You're burning up!"

We stopped outside a pharmacy. "I'm going to get you some medicine," he said. "I'll be right back. Stay here!"

He disappeared inside.

I started seeing spots. I tried calling out, but my throat didn't work. I couldn't see as I stumbled forward. Some part of the back of my brain noticed I was on a street. Two stars were gleaming at me.

Then everything went black.

Nathan POV

The screech of the tires made me look outside. I almost vomited.

I ran out there. "Jay!" I screamed, running to the body in front of the car. He lay where he had been hit, very still. I knelt and checked his pulse. It was slow, and his breathing was laboured.

The driver was stuttering out an apology. "Call an ambulance you blundering idiot!" I cried. That was harsh. I considered apologising but he was already on the phone.

I cradled Jay's head on my lap. He was bleeding a lot from a few serious wounds. "Wake up, mate. Wake up!" I slapped him, but his eyes didn't open.

The ambulance came and took Jay. I demanded to ride in the front seat, and they let me.

I pulled out my phone. With my bloody fingers, I called the boys.

"Hey bro, what's up?" Tom asked, in a good mood.

"Jay's been hit by a car," I said. I could hear the strain in my voice from trying not to cry.

"Oh my god. Oh my god." I heard him tell the boys.

"Yeah, so tell them and management to get their arses over to the hospital, ASAP." I hung up. My phone was covered in red stickiness.

I couldn't cry yet. Not yet.

Six painstakingly long hours later.

"Are you all here for a Jay McGuiness?" the doctor asked.

We sat forward on our chairs.

"Will he be okay?" Max asked.

"He will live. However, he's in a coma that we can't wake him from. I don't know how long he will have to stay."

We kept silent.

The Wanted without Jay. It was impossible for me to imagine life without my best mate.

"You can visit him as often as you like. In fact, you can see him now."

We all jumped out of our chairs and rushed to the hospital room.

I took the only chair next to the bed and looked at him.

He was heavily bandaged. His pale colour hasn't left his face, but he didn't look sick anymore. He just looked asleep. His breathing was normal, and his heartbeat was steady.

I broke into tears. The boys hugged me, comforted me, but they were crying too. I couldn't help it as my salty tears dropped onto Jay's mattress.

How long will he be like this? I don't know how long I can last.
