Nathan's POV

I stood outside of the surgery room, pacing nervously. They told me they had to perform the surgery ahead of time due to this sudden...attack. The odds of his survival were so low. But I refused to give up hope.

Max gave me a hug. "I'm so sorry, Nath," he whispered into my ear. I shoved him away with empty anger.

"He's not going to die, okay?" I growled. "He's going to walk out that door, good as new. I just married the man and he is not getting out of it that easy."

Tears came out of nowhere. Sobs racked my body and I held my hands to my head. Nareesha and Kelsey soothingly rubbed my back and sat me down.

Jay couldn't die. Please. I prayed to whatever force could help him. Please let him live. I would give anything to have him survive this.

I was shaken awake by Tom's strong arms. I opened my eyes and saw the boys and the surgeon, all with sad expressions. The surgeon's uniform was covered in blood.

"How is he?" I asked. "He's okay, right?"

"Nathan..." Max shuffled from foot to foot, refusing to meet my gaze. I looked around and everyone was the same way.

"He's alive. You're lying to me," I said firmly.

"Mr. Sykes, there's something you need to see," the surgeon said, leading me into the room.

I almost gagged.

Jay's already pale body was white as a sheet. His eyes were wide open, glossy and still. His chest was covered in a bloody sheet, and it wasn't moving. No breathing.

"Jay?" I whispered, taking his ice cold hand. Nothing. "Jay!" I shouted. "JAY MCGUINESS! WAKE UP!"

Nothing.

"WAKE UP YOU BITCH WAKE UP! GET UP!" I screamed, punching his torso.

"Uhm..." the surgeon said, trying to pull me away. I struggled against him and returned to Jay's side.

I continued punching him, aiming hopelessly to restart his heart. "Wake. Up. Now. Jay. Mc. Guiness. Wake. Up. I. Love. You." I accented each syllable with a hard punch.

"I love you," I whispered softly. I grabbed his hand and laid my head in the crook of his neck, crying softly when I heard no heartbeat.

And then...
